The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 213

“Why are you here?”

Belinda had thought for sure Lance would be with Adelina. But as she walked closer and saw Catherine standing next to him, her face tightened.

“Belinda.” Catherine’s tone was polite and distant. “I just gave Lance a ride home.” She turned to Lance with a nod. “If you don’t need anything else, I’ll get going.”

“Okay.” Lance’s answer was barely more than a sound. He didn’t even wait for Catherine’s car to pull away before heading inside the villa.

Belinda wanted to pull Catherine aside and warn her to stop spending so much time alone with Lance. But the two had already gone their separate ways. Instead, she hurried after Lance, heels clicking on the floor.

“Your wedding with Adelina is coming up. You need to start planning,” she called out.

“You and the Green family can handle it.” Lance slipped off his shoes and started up the stairs.

Belinda stopped at the bottom of the staircase. “There are things both families need to sit down and talk through. When are you free?”

“You can take care of it for me.” Lance paused and looked back at her. “I’m busy with work.”

“You can’t just use work as an excuse.” Belinda’s frustration started to show. “This is a once-in-a-lifetime thing. You have to take it seriously.”

Lance leaned against the banister, the chandelier above him throwing patterns of light across his face.

“This is my second time.”

Belinda’s breath caught. “Why are you bringing that up? Just pretend it never happened.”

Lance’s expression barely changed, but his eyes seemed distant.

So that was why Catherine kept her distance. She was pretending their two-year marriage had never happened, too.

He pressed his lips together, silent.

Fiona looked up from the chessboard. “He runs all of SilverLeaf Industries, but you think he can’t manage a wedding? You’re worrying too much.”

Belinda turned slightly, resting her hand on the sofa arm. “I just don’t want him to treat Adelina badly. And honestly, I think something’s off with his attitude.”

“If you really feel that way, let’s talk about it.” Fiona set down a chess piece and moved closer. “Do you think he actually has feelings for Adelina?”

Of course he does. They grew up together, childhood sweethearts. Belinda had always rooted for them, but in the end, it was their own choice to be together.

But now, she couldn’t quite say “yes” with confidence.

“If he didn’t care about her, why would he marry her?” she replied, a little defensively.

Fiona shook her head. “You’re asking me? Who am I supposed to ask?”

Belinda was quiet for a moment, then shook her head slowly. “It’s impossible. He just isn’t good with words. He doesn’t know how to show his feelings.”
