The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 231

Lance’s face gave nothing away.

His sharp nose and thin lips, those striking features, came into focus, imprinting themselves on Catherine’s mind.

He stopped in front of her, looking down, silent and unreadable.

Catherine lowered her eyes and spoke first. “Lance, I’m sorry... I’ve caused you more trouble.”

It didn’t matter that nothing had actually happened between her and Gavin. Just being associated with him was enough for the media to snap photos and blow everything out of proportion.

Because of this mess, SilverLeaf Industries had lost millions, and their reputation had taken a hit.

“Lance, Catherine didn’t do anything wrong. Gavin showed up at the office looking for her. She couldn’t get away from him. We’re just caught in the crossfire,” Aaron spoke up, trying to defend her. This really wasn’t Catherine’s fault.

Lance shot him a glare that could freeze water. “You talk too much.”

“Lance, let’s get in the car first. There are reporters outside,” Catherine said quietly, giving Aaron a look to let it drop.

Lance wasn’t the kind to listen to advice anyway. And right now wasn’t the time to point fingers. He was the one who had suddenly decided to take on the government project, and the scandal broke while he was out of the country on personal business.

The board was waiting for an explanation. They’d been waiting for a while.

Lance turned and walked toward the parking garage. Catherine fell into step behind him.

Inside the black Mercedes van, the glossy finish caught the flickering lights of the garage as they drove out. Aaron was at the wheel, while Lance and Catherine sat side by side in the back.

“Lance, these are the two emergency plans from PR. Please take a look.” She slid her laptop toward him.

The screen’s glow lit up his eyes for a moment. He barely glanced at it before looking away. “You handle it. What’s the board saying?”

“You’ve been helping the Green family a lot lately. The board was already unhappy about it, and now they’re using this as an excuse to stir things up.”

By seven, as the city lights flickered on outside, the meeting finally wrapped up. The board members came out with grim faces, walking in tight little groups, not saying a word.

Lance led the way, his presence impossible to ignore. Behind him, Belinda hurried to catch up.

“Investigate this. I want to know who’s behind it,” Belinda snapped.

From a business standpoint, Golden Horizon Enterprises had lost even more than SilverLeaf Industries. Gavin, personally, was in deeper trouble than Lance. But for someone like Lance, this was the first real stain on his perfect record.

It didn’t even feel like someone was trying to ruin the partnership. It felt personal. Like someone was coming after Lance himself.

“It’s already being looked into,” Lance said, barely glancing at Catherine as he walked into his office without stopping.

Belinda paused, turning to glare at Catherine. “This is all your fault.”
