The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 249

Catherine had only applied to SilverLeaf Industries so she could be closer to Lance.

Landing the job as his secretary felt like a win, pulling her right into his orbit.

She hadn’t plotted every step, but she’d definitely climbed her way up for him.

Now, it was all about getting away. She spent her days coming up with careful plans to keep her distance.

Nothing mattered more than the baby growing inside her.

Still, Catherine had to admit, her heart was anything but calm.

“Alright, alright, I get it,” Lorinda said, giving her a look that practically screamed, “You can’t let him go.”

Catherine looked up, her eyes cool. “Get what, exactly?”

Lorinda leaned in, acting mysterious. “It’s one of those things you just feel. Hard to put into words.”

Catherine rolled her eyes and went back to her checklist. She finished it up, sent it to Lance, and then... there was nothing left to do but wait.

She’d never taken time off from work and had absolutely nothing to fill her days.

Now, her only job was helping Lorinda with her livestreams every night. It was easy and, honestly, a nice distraction.

Lorinda picked a day and asked Catherine to tag along to the hospital for a checkup.

It wasn’t time for her postpartum visit yet. She was really there for Dr. Harrell.

“Don’t get me wrong, Harrell’s cute, but I’m not obsessed. It’s just... I’m leaving soon. Guys like him don’t come around often. Would be a shame not to at least try talking to him, right?”

Catherine buckled her seatbelt, glanced over, and couldn’t help but laugh.

“I didn’t say anything.”

Lorinda side-eyed her. “You don’t have to. I know what you’re thinking.”

The two of them couldn’t have been more different. Lorinda always spoke her mind, no filter.

Catherine kept to herself, rarely asking questions, but she noticed everything and thought about it all.

“Just as well. I need to pick up my medical records while I’m there,” Lorinda said.

By her next prenatal checkup, Catherine would be in another city for sure.

“Today’s the day. I’m getting his number,” Lorinda announced, grinning. “Once we’re not face to face, I can flirt as much as I want. No need to hold back.”

Catherine shot her a sideways glance.

Honestly, after two years of marriage, she still hadn’t stopped loving Lance, even after seeing his flaws up close.

If anything, seeing his wild side in bed had only made her fall harder.

“With your looks, you could have any guy you want. You should enjoy it,” Lorinda said.

If Lorinda had Catherine’s figure, she’d be bold enough to flirt with any man, right to his face.

As things stood, she was too afraid a guy would just tell her to get lost.

At the hospital, the OB-GYN department was crowded with women in every stage of pregnancy.

Catherine and Lorinda definitely stood out.

Neither of them looked pregnant, and almost everyone else had their husbands with them.

Lorinda was a minor internet celebrity, and the nurse who greeted them happened to be a fan.

She personally walked Lorinda right to Dr. Harrell’s office, then quietly used her pull to get Lorinda the only open emergency appointment slot.
