The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 280

Why did it even matter who the father of Catherine’s baby was?

“Get out.”

Lance barely moved his lips, but the word came out cold and sharp.

Aaron hesitated. “Do you mean get out of the company or just out of your office?”

“Go ask.”

Lance’s eyes were icy, his face tense with barely contained anger.

Aaron turned and left. As soon as he was outside the office, he pulled out his phone and sent Gavin a quick message: OK.

He still had no idea how Gavin knew they were looking into Catherine’s pregnancy. Right before he’d stepped into Lance’s office, Gavin had messaged him out of nowhere.

Turns out, the baby in Catherine’s belly really was Lance’s.

If that secret ever got out, everything would explode.

Gavin had dropped all pretenses and thrown everything he had into convincing Aaron that if Lance ever found out, nothing good would come of it. Aaron knew he was right. When you worked for someone like Lance, you were always walking on eggshells. His mood could decide your fate in a second.

All Aaron could do was take things as they came.

After replying to Gavin, he tried calling Catherine, but she hung up after just a couple of rings. He called again. She hung up again.

A moment later, she sent him a text. Sorry, I’m busy. If you need something, text me.

Catherine wasn’t at work, so what was she so busy with?

Aaron got someone to look into it, and soon he had the full story about Amanda and all the trouble she’d stirred up.

After thinking it through, he went back to Lance’s office.

“Catherine and Lorinda are facing off with the orphanage director right now. They’re trying to get their money back.”

Lance’s grip on his pen tightened, the veins in his hand standing out. His face was dark.

What could possibly be so urgent that Aaron would come looking for her at the orphanage?

She pushed her chair aside and unlocked the door.

“Aaron.”

He nodded at her in greeting, then stepped inside, briefcase in hand.

“Catherine, Lance heard you were in trouble and sent me to help. These are the legal documents our lawyers prepared. If they refuse to give you and Lorinda your money back, you can use these to protect yourselves. And don’t worry about the orphanage. Lance will take care of everything…”

He handed over a stack of papers, page after page filled with legal jargon.

Amanda only needed one look before she went pale.

She had Gavin on her side, but he was never really going to protect her.

Now, Catherine had found someone much stronger to stand behind her.
