The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 354

"Lance, you finally decided to show up in person."

There was a hint of something else in that greeting, like Catherine—the one Lance had sent before—just wasn’t up to the task.

Lance’s eyelids lifted just enough for his gaze to land on Ivan, cool and commanding.

Ivan had never met Lance before. Now, with that stare fixed on him, he felt his blood freeze. His whole body tingled with nerves.

"Catherine."

Lance spoke her name, his voice low and even.

Catherine got the message and rolled down the car window.

"There’s a meeting in half an hour. Don’t bother Lance until then."

Ivan’s face darkened.

He knew Lance was here to support Catherine, but he hadn’t expected him to be so direct, not even pretending to save face for him.

Ivan closed the car door, stepped back, and moved aside.

Catherine drove down to the underground parking lot. She was just about to open the door for Lance when she saw he was already out, closing the door behind him and straightening his shirt before heading toward the elevator with long, purposeful strides.

Catherine hurried after him. "Lance, I fired the PR manager and the head of security yesterday. Ivan’s definitely going to bring it up at the meeting."

"Yeah." Lance barely made a sound.

He reached the elevator before her and pressed the button. "Ever heard the saying, ‘like a ship without a captain’?"

Catherine stepped in after him, confusion flickering across her face. "Are you planning to make an example out of Ivan?"

"Ivan’s just the warm-up." Lance flexed his wrist, his eyes turning colder. "Your job is to keep Ivan in check and make sure nothing blows up. Once Ingram goes down, Ivan won’t be a problem anymore."

Lance never cared for games with the small fry.

Ingram thought Lance wouldn’t dare cross an old board member of SilverLeaf Industries. But Lance was more than ready to prove him wrong.

"So, when are you heading back to Cabinda?"

The question slipped out before Catherine could stop herself.

Lance’s eyes narrowed, clearly annoyed.

"Let them wait," Catherine said, not the slightest bit rushed.

They were waiting for Lance. None of them would dare complain.

"Why did Lance show up out of the blue?"

Letty sat across from her, hands on the desk like a curious schoolgirl. "Is he here to back you up?"

Catherine shot her a look and corrected her. "He’s here to back us up."

"Oh, right!" Letty nodded fast. "We’re all on Lance’s team!"

Catherine couldn’t help smiling at her excitement. "Go prepare another breakfast for Lance. He doesn’t like sweets."

Letty stood up and gave a playful salute. "Got it! You really know Lance, Catherine. Have you eaten? Want me to order something for you too?"

"I’m good. I’ve got breakfast right here." Catherine pulled out the meal Lorinda made for her and was about to take a bite when the phone rang again.

Lance’s voice came through the line. "Catherine, I left my watch at your place. Send someone to pick it up."
