The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 358

What happened last night? Did you guys seriously get back together?

Wait, you’re pregnant. You do know what you’re doing, right?

The messages just kept getting more and more ridiculous. Catherine couldn’t help but frown as she scrolled through them.

Have you seen the updates online about Lance and Adelina’s wedding? Yesterday at the reception, Belinda was practically bragging about how smoothly everything was going.

Lorinda chimed in. So, let me get this straight. You just said yes to getting back together with him, even though he hasn’t called off his wedding with someone else?

Catherine replied, Lance was sick and had nobody to take care of him. I let him stay at my place for a night, that’s all.

There was nothing from Lorinda for a while. Catherine thought maybe her explanation had finally gotten through. But then another message popped up.

If he dies, the baby’s all yours.

Catherine was at a loss for words.

Are you bringing him home again tonight?

No.

Catherine thought about how confident Lance had looked earlier. He seemed back to his usual self.

Lorinda sent another message. Harrell was around too. Why isn’t he looking after Lance?

Tired of texting, Catherine just called her.

“Harrell said he had something going on, so he couldn’t stay with Lance. How did you know he was here?” Catherine asked.

In the background, she could hear Jasper making little noises while Lorinda talked.

“I saw Harrell’s post on Twitter. He went hiking yesterday. Guess he’d rather climb a mountain than check on Lance. I’ve seen fake friendships before, but their brotherhood is on another level.”

It was hard to tell if Lorinda was actually annoyed about Harrell and Lance, or if she was just trying to needle Catherine about bringing Lance home.

Catherine’s head was starting to hurt.

“Stop stirring things up. I’m hanging up now.”

“Hold on. Your prenatal check is in a couple days. Make sure your work is sorted out so I can go with you.”

“Probably worried about that news story from before. Maybe he thinks I can’t handle it,” Catherine said, not sounding too sure herself.

“Okay, I’m off to lunch. You can talk to him yourself!” Letty took advantage of their friendship, ducking out and leaving Catherine with the job.

With no other choice, Catherine placed the order for porridge herself and waited until it arrived before heading over to Lance’s office.

She knocked, and his deep, steady voice called out from inside.

“Come in.”

She stepped inside.

“Lance, you should eat something. You can’t take medicine on an empty stomach.”

Lance was busy, handling work Aaron had sent him. He barely looked up before turning back to his screen.

“Just leave it there.”

Catherine set the porridge on his desk. “You’ve probably got a lot to catch up on after being sick. Aaron couldn’t reach you a few times. You should probably head back to Cabinda soon, before you get too behind.”
