The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 363

“Be careful what you say.”

Catherine shot Sophia a warning glance.

Sophia caught on right away. “Sorry, Catherine.”

“I’m not talking about how you address me.” Catherine’s eyes said the rest, leaving Sophia to figure it out for herself.

Sophia made a face, sticking her tongue out. “Come on, who’s going to listen to me for two seconds and suddenly guess that you and Lance were married and... you know?”

Catherine fell silent, not even bothering to respond.

The elevator chimed and the doors slid open.

Lance was waiting outside, one hand in his pocket, watching them with that slightly raised eyebrow of his.

“Lance,” Sophia said quickly, switching gears. “I’m Sophia, just started in PR.”

Catherine could feel the intensity of Lance’s gaze, making her scalp prickle.

“Lance.”

He just made a quiet sound and stepped inside.

Catherine and Sophia hurried out, heads down, pretending to be very interested in the hallway carpet.

“No chatting during work hours.”

Lance’s voice followed them as the elevator doors began to close.

Both women froze mid-step.

Catherine squeezed her eyes shut, wishing she could erase that entire scene from her memory.

Sophia glanced back at the closed doors, then let out a breath. “He heard us, didn’t he?”

“Don’t bring it up. Let’s just go.” Catherine walked off toward the conference room, clearly wanting to drop the topic.

“It’s fine, I was the one talking. If Lance is mad, he’ll be mad at me.”

Sophia sped up to catch her. “He doesn’t really think you’d gossip about him with me in private, right?”

Catherine’s heart tightened. “Really?”

“Yeah. Look—last night Adelina tweeted something super weird.”

Sophia pulled up Adelina’s account. The pinned tweet was simple: We shouldn’t hurt each other like this.

People had left comments, but Sophia could only see Adelina’s replies.

She’d written that she and Lance had fought, that he was giving her the cold shoulder and using the thing she cared about most to get under her skin.

“What’s Lance even mad at her about? The wedding’s still on. He didn’t yell at her, he didn’t do anything. Isn’t she just making things up? What’s this thing she supposedly cares about the most?”

Sophia looked like she was one click away from blocking Adelina’s account.

Catherine’s lips twitched, but whatever she wanted to say got stuck inside.

So that’s why Lance had come to Eldervale—because he’d fought with Adelina. And he’d come here because Catherine was here. She was the thorn Adelina couldn’t ignore.

“She’s so dramatic. I never even wanted to get married, but now I do. The second she marries into the family, I’m getting out. There’s no way I’ll live under the same roof as her.”
