The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 368

Adolf barely let Lewis get a word in before shutting him down.

“Pack up your things and leave tomorrow. And don’t ever call my daughter again.”

“Adolf, I swear, I didn’t do anything to Lance,” Lewis blurted out, his voice anxious. “This is all just a huge misunderstanding. I can explain—”

He could hear Polly crying in the background.

“Dad, you already promised me and Lewis could try being together. How can you just take that back? I really like him...”

“Liking him isn’t enough. If we upset Lance, the whole George family is finished. I won’t let one person destroy us all.”

Adolf felt a wave of regret. He should have shut things down the moment he noticed sparks between his daughter and Lewis. Now, he blamed himself for taking the gamble. Lewis seemed capable, and coming from a humble background, he wouldn’t mind marrying into their family. Adolf had convinced himself it would work out, thinking that Lewis breaking up with Catherine wouldn’t be enough to anger Lance.

But everything had blown up so quickly.

“Adolf, please, let me talk to Lance,” Lewis pleaded. “Just give me one chance, I know why he’s doing this.”

In that moment, Lewis understood exactly what was going on with Lance.

“Dad, please, I’m begging you...” Polly’s voice was desperate on the other end.

Adolf was silent for a moment, then finally said, “I’ll send you Lance’s contact. Reach out to him yourself. If he still wants me to fire you, I won’t step in. And while you’re dealing with this, you’re not to contact my daughter at all.”

The call ended abruptly.

Less than a minute later, Lewis got a text with a phone number. He called Lance right away.

The phone rang a few times, then cut off.

The party was packed, and after making the rounds, Lance had had more than enough to drink. He was done with the pleasantries and made his way to the exit.

Geoffrey walked him out personally. “Lance, we’ll have to get together for some of Eldervale’s best food next time. By the way, there’s a government project coming at the end of the year. Maybe we should talk about it in advance.”

“SilverLeaf Industries is only opening a branch here to help manage our other offices,” Lance replied. “We’re not trying to take over the southern market, so there’s no need to worry. We’re not here to compete with you. You should keep that government project for yourself.”

He thought about the timing—by the end of the year, Catherine would have just given birth. A government contract would be exhausting, and she wouldn’t be able to handle it.

Geoffrey smiled, still polite. “Well, since you’re in Eldervale now, I’m sure business will be booming. You’re always welcome here...”

Lance didn’t bother to respond. He just listened, letting Geoffrey ramble, until he got bored and pulled out his phone, scrolling through absentmindedly.

When he finally opened the unread message, his whole expression changed in an instant.
