The Billionaire Ex-Wife's Return (Cynthia and Ethan) novel Chapter 217

Chapter 217

Cynthia's POV

His eyes went wide, his mouth falling open slightly, shock written across every feature of his face.

"K-Kevin told you?" he stammered, his voice barely above a whisper. "He didn't even waste a second…"

"Actually," a voice cut in from the doorway, "I didn't tell her anything."

Both Julian and I turned sharply.

Kevin stood leaning against the doorframe, arms crossed over his chest, one eyebrow raised in that infuriatingly calm way he had when he was making a point.

"I've been standing here since forever," Kevin continued, his tone dry. "Listening to this entire conversation. But one thing I will not allow is being accused of something I didn't do."

Despite everything — despite the tears, the exhaustion, the emotional whiplash of the entire night, I laughed.

It bubbled up out of me unexpectedly, breaking through the tension like sunlight through clouds.

Kevin's lips twitched into a faint smile.

Julian, however, looked even more confused now, his gaze darting between me and Kevin.

"Wait," he said slowly. "Kevin didn't tell you?"

"No," I said, shaking my head. "He didn't."

Julian blinked. "Then how…" He stopped, realization dawning slowly across his face. "You knew? You've known this whole time?"

"Not the whole time," I clarified gently. "But… I've suspected for a while."

"How long is 'a while'?" Kevin asked, pushing off the doorframe and walking into the room properly now, genuine curiosity in his voice.

"A few weeks," I admitted.

Julian stared at me like I'd just told him I could fly.

"A few weeks?" he repeated, disbelief coloring his tone. "And you never said anything?"

"It wasn't my truth to tell," I said simply.

Kevin crossed his arms again, studying me with an expression I couldn't quite read. "How did you figure it out?"

I glanced at Julian, silently asking permission.

He nodded slowly, still looking shell-shocked.

"Remember that day you threw your laptop into the aquarium?" I asked Julian.

His face went pale. "Oh God."

"Yeah," I said, unable to suppress a small smile. "That was… subtle."

"I'm better than you think," I shot back.

Kevin snorted. "Clearly."

Julian was still staring at me, his eyes glossy with unshed tears.

"That was my greatest fear," he said quietly. "That someone would find out before I was ready. That I'd lose control of my own story."

"You didn't lose control," I said gently. "I don’t know how Kevin found out but, your story is still yours, Julian," I continued. "You get to decide when to tell it. And to whom. And how."

He nodded slowly, wiping at his eyes.

Kevin moved closer, sitting down on the other side of Julian, his expression softer now.

"For the record," Kevin said, his voice low but steady, "I'm still processing all of this. I'm still… figuring out how I feel about it."

Julian tensed immediately.

"But," Kevin continued firmly, "that doesn't mean I love you any less. Or that I think any less of you. You're my brother. That doesn't change."

Julian's face crumpled, and he turned toward Kevin, pulling him into a tight hug.

Kevin hugged him back without hesitation, his hand coming up to cradle the back of Julian's head the way he used to when they were kids.

I watched them for a moment, my chest tight with emotion, then quietly stood and moved toward the door to give them privacy.
