The Billionaire Ex-Wife's Return (Cynthia and Ethan) novel Chapter 314

Chapter 314

Third Person POV

Detective Susan stood outside the interrogation room, watching through the one-way glass as officers brought Pascal Walker in from holding.

He was conscious now — barely — his face swollen and bruised from whatever fight had occurred before he'd been delivered to the station.

His hands were cuffed behind his back, his movements sluggish and pained as officers guided him into the chair across from his mother.

Grace had been sitting in defiant silence for hours.

Hadn't said a single word despite Susan's best efforts at interrogation.

Just sat there with that infuriating, knowing smile, like she was enjoying watching them struggle.

But the moment Pascal was brought into the room—the moment Grace's eyes landed on her son—everything changed.

Her composure shattered instantly.

"Pascal!" she cried out, lurching forward in her chair, the handcuffs securing her to the table rattling with the sudden movement. "Oh God, Pascal, what did they do to you?"

Her voice was raw, panicked, all the cold control she'd been maintaining evaporating in an instant.

Pascal looked up at his mother, his expression a mixture of pain and defeat.

"Mom," he said quietly.

"I'm so sorry," Grace continued, tears streaming down her face now. "I'm so sorry, baby. I should have protected you. I should have…"

"Ms. Walker," Detective Susan interrupted, entering the room and settling into her chair. "I need you to calm down."

"Calm down?" Grace repeated, her voice rising. "You beat my son! Look at him! Look at what you did to him!"

"We didn't do this," Susan said firmly. "Your son was brought in by civilians who claim he attacked them first. These injuries are from defending themselves."

Grace's eyes flashed with fury.

"That's a lie! Pascal wouldn't…"

"Mom, stop," Pascal interrupted quietly. "Just... stop."

Grace turned her attention back to her son, fresh tears spilling down her cheeks.

"I'm going to get you out of here," she said desperately. "I'm going to fix this. I promise."

"Ms. Walker," Susan said, her tone shifting to something more strategic. "If you want to help your son, the best thing you can do right now is cooperate with this investigation."

Grace's jaw clenched.

"What do you want to know?" she asked, her voice tight.

Susan pulled out the file she'd been carrying—the one documenting the ten million dollars found in Grace's vehicle.

"Let's start with the money," Susan said. "Ten million dollars in cash. That's a significant amount. Where did it come from?"

Grace didn't answer immediately.

Just looked at Pascal, then back at Detective Susan.

"It was all a mistake," she said suddenly, her tone shifting to something pleading. "All of it. The kidnapping, everything. It was just—it was a joke that went too far."

Susan’s eyebrows rose.

"A joke," she repeated flatly.

"Yes," Grace said, nodding frantically. "I was angry with Cynthia. With what her mother did to me years ago. And I wanted to scare her. Make her understand what it felt like to lose everything. But I never meant for anyone to get hurt."

"You shot Ethan Walker," Susan said. "We have evidence of that from the blood found at the warehouse. How was that a joke?"

"It was an accident!" Grace insisted. "The gun went off. I didn't mean to—I was just trying to scare them and it went off and…"

She dissolved into sobs.

Susan waited patiently for the crying to subside.
