The Billionaire Ex-Wife's Return (Cynthia and Ethan) novel Chapter 62

Chapter 62

Cynthia’s POV

I grabbed my suitcase with trembling hands, still unpacked from the flight over, still stuffed with hastily throwntogether clothes I hadn’t even touched.

Had I slept at all in the past fortyeight hours? Maybe a few restless hours on the plane, plagued by nightmares about the restaurant and the crushing guilt of abandoning Amber. But real rest? No. Nothing close.

It didn’t matter. None of it mattered now.

Amber wasn’t safe. Amber was in a hospital bed.

I fumbled with my phone, nearly dropping it twice before I managed to initiate a group call with my brothers.

Kevin answered first. Hey, Cici. I’m actually about to board a flight to Paris

No!I cut him off just as Nathaniel and Julian joined the call. No, don’t come. I’m coming back to Missford.

Cynthia?Julian’s voice was laced with concern. What happened? You sound

It’s Amber. My voice cracked. He’s in the hospital. I don’t know what happened. I called Bryan Ethan’s friend…. he just said Amber’s in the hospital and I should hurry. I couldn’t reach Ethan. I don’t know anything else.

A heavy silence fell over the call.

Okay, slow down,Kevin said, his tone shifting into something calmer, more controlled. Was there an accident?

He didn’t say. He justhe hung up before I could ask more questions.

Cici, listen to me.Nathaniel’s voice was steady, anchoring. don’t get too overwhelmed. Children end up in hospitals all the time. It could be anything a fall, a fever, dehydration. It doesn’t mean it’s serious.

He’s right,Julian added gently. Don’t spiral into worstcase scenarios. Amber is probably fine. Kids are resilient.

I hope soI started sobbing.

I’m going to the hospital myself,Kevin said decisively. Right now. I’ll check on Amber and call you back with an update. Okay? So you don’t have to panic the entire flight.

Relief washed over me. You’d do that?

Of course I would. He’s my nephew. There was warmth in Kevin’s voice beneath the worry. Forward me the hospital address Bryan sent you. I’ll head there now.

I quickly forwarded the message, my fingers clumsy on the screen. Thank you, Kevin. Thank you so much.

I’ll pick you up from the airport,Nathaniel said. Text me your flight details as soon as you have them.

I remembered Nikolai offered his family’s private jet, UhmI would be flying using a private jet

They were all quiet at first, but this wasn’t the time to ask questions.

Try to rest on the flight. I know that sounds impossible right now, but you’ve barely slept in two days. Your body is running on fumes. If you push yourself too hard, you could collapse.Julian said

I’ll try,I said, even though we both knew it was a lie.

We love you,Kevin said. Amber’s going to be okay. I promise.

Love you too. All of you.

I ended the call and stood there for a moment, phone clutched to my chest, trying to steady my breathing

I looked back at Nikolai, he didn’t really look good himself. He looked drenched and weary. Perhaps I had stressed him with my panic and the fact he had to put calls through to the pilots that were supposed to take me to Missford.
