Chapter 134
It wasn’t until Milo pulled up smoothly in front of Whitemore Villa that Hathaway finally let out a quiet sigh of relief.
“Thank you, Mr. Carmichael, Hathaway said.
She’d been tense the whole time. She wasn’t used to dealing with people who had that government aura about them.
Milo was so steady and mature, like an elder or an uncle. He was so proper that it actually made Hathaway feel awkward.
Milo replied gently, “You’re welcome. Go on in.”
Hathaway thanked him again and hurried inside.
When Sylvia and Celeste saw that Hathaway was the only one who came back, Sylvia couldn’t help but ask. “Where’s your brother?”
Hathaway replied, “He’s got a work event tonight.
Sylvia said. “Go wash your hands, dinner’s ready.”
At dinner, Celeste remembered the guy who dropped Hathaway off and teased with a grin. “That was Mr. Carmichael, right? He seems pretty impressive. Honestly, you two actually look good together
Sylvia asked in surprise, “Was it him?”
Hathaway nodded, then quickly shook her head. “He happened to give me a lift, nothing more.”
Her standards for choosing a partner had long since changed.
In her previous life, she was obsessed with strength and power. Guys like Jeremiah were dazzling and unstoppable. She was absolutely crazy about him.
But now, she wasn’t interested in men with authority and that overwhelming presence anymore.
This time around, all she wanted was a peaceful, ordinary life that would go on quietly and steadily
Deep down, she’d already started thinking about someone. After all, Zachary was coming back soon.
As long as he didn’t mind, she was planning to make a move and see what happened.
Zachary had that gentle, scholarly vibe. He was not scheming, no political games, no drama. He was down–to- earth and clean–cut, the kind of guy she was into these days.
Hathaway comidn’t help but smile as she absentmindedly nibbled on her fork.
I got to make sure I don’t freak bin out when the time comes, that’s all. Hathaway thought.

Chapter 184
“What are you grinning about? Celeste asked.
“No, nothing” Hathaway replied quickly.
As Celeste looked over, Hathaway hurriedly lowered her head and buried herself in her food.
After dinner and a shower, Hathaway stood by the floor–to–ceiling window, alone, quietly watching the tranquil darkness outside.

Hathaway was really worried about Avery. He was so naïve and had no sense of caution. He could be easily faken advantage of by anyone who showed him a bit of kindness.
He always went out of his way for his friends, never realizing that some people were wolves in sheep’s clothing.
It was past ten when Avery finally got home.
Hathaway was sitting on the living room couch, flipping through channels with the remote. When she saw him walk in, she turned off the TV. “Finally decided to come home?” she teased.
Avery walked in and asked, “Why aren’t you in bed yet?”
Hathaway stood up and said. “As if I could sleep. Did Jeremiah ask you to come over for something tonight?”
Avery replied, sounding relaxed, “It was nothing, some drinks. No big deal. But Jeremiah invited me to play golf tomorrow, said he wants to introduce me to a few people”
Hathaway frowned, her voice louder and more pointed. “Are you seriously going tomorrow?”
“Tomorrow’s different. He’s inviting some… Avery started to explain.
But Hathaway cut him off, her tone firm. “Are you out of your mind? He’s acting way too friendly. He’s definitely got something up his sleeve.”
Avery waved it off. “Seriously, that’s how business goes. People scratch each other’s backs, make some introductions, and it’s not always about plotting against each other. Plus, Blackwood Group is way out of our league. Why would he bother…”
Hathaway cut him off, her voice sharp. “He’s out for revenge for the Kingsley Group!”
Avery paused, thinking it over. Yeah, that’s possible, he thought. It’s no secret how much jeremiah cares about Jessica. Now Kingsley Group’s in trouble, and rumor has it Hathaway’s the one who caused it!
Jeremiah only kept her locked up for a day before letting her go. That was not like him at all.
“Alright, I’ll go tomorrow, but after that. I’m done. I already gave him my word today, Avery said,
Hathaway frowned, knowing there was no way she could change Avery’s mind. Fine, 111 gy with you tomorrow. I want to see what he’s really up to
She said it with a bite, then marched off to her mom to sleep.

The next day, at the golf course, a sleek black Bentley glided smoothly over the dew–kissed grass
Avery opened the car door for Hathaway, his tone gentle and coaxing. “It’s a bunch of guys talking business Business is all about connections; you really don’t need to put yourself through this”
I’m worried you’ll get tricked into signing some crazy contract that sells us all out,” Hathaway said, getting our of the car with a huff. “Next thing you know, Celeste will be popping out twins in some cramped apartment
“Mom and I will be squeezed onto one bed, and you’ll be hanging on the wall.”
Avery was about to scold her, but then, Jeremiah and his crew walked over. Hathaway instantly clammed up. her lips pressed together in annoyance.
“Mr. Whitmore, is this your sister? She’s absolutely gorgeous and adorable! Why have you been keeping her hidden all this time?” someone said, flattering Avery.
Avery gave a faint smile. “Not at all. She’s actually pretty fierce most days. You haven’t seen that side of her yet
Under the sunlight, Hathaway flashed the speaker a faint smile. Her hair was pulled back in a neat ponytail, and she had a white baseball cap on.
She wore a cropped lavender polo top with a white high–waisted skirt. It was a clean, sporty look that felt totally refreshing.
“Rumor has it your sister’s got something going on with Mr. Blackwood’s brother?” someone said.
As soon as he said that, all eyes went straight to Jeremiah.
Jeremiah’s expression froze for a moment, barely noticeable, before his eyes flicked over to Hathaway.
But Hathaway kept her gaze elsewhere.
Everyone was still waiting for his answer, so Jeremiah looked away and replied, “Yeah.”
After the small talk, they made their way onto the golf course. Hathaway kept to herself, quietly focusing on her swing.
She stood on the tee box, her posture a bit stiff and awkward.
Just then. Jeremiah walked up behind her, his eyes fixed on her tense shoulders. His voice was low and steady “Your stance is off. You’re leaning too far forward.”
Before she could react, Jeremiah placed his hand firmly on her waist, guiding her gently toward him.
The warmth of his touch seeped through her lilac top, and Hathaway tensed up, almost imperceptibly. Her lashes fluttered, and her breath grew shallow.
“Relax your waist, and let your hips follow through as you turn.‘ Jeremiah said
