Chapter 135
Just then, the waiter brought over a fresh round of drinks and set them down gently on the edge of the table
Hathaway reached for the mango juice, and as her fingers touched the cool glass, another hand reached over
first.
Jeremiah’s warm palm landed on the back of her hand, the sudden warmth making them both pause for a second
Hathaway pulled her hand back almost instantly, Jeremiah didn’t say anything, pushed the glass toward her.
Everyone else was busy chatting away, and nobody noticed that little moment between the two of them
Just then, someone mentioned that Lucas had met a girl at the rural branch of his company and was now dating her.
Hathaway froze for a second.
Kieran joked, “A country girl? Did someone put a spell on him or something?”
“Maybe it’s true love. What’s weird is that the Reed family actually allowed it.” someone else chimed in.
“It’s dating. It’s not like Lucas is the one losing out. If he gets bored, he’ll dump her and move on. Poor girl,” another person added.
Hathaway felt a pang of discomfort in her chest.
Someone sighed, “Guess you really do need to have a son.”
“Jeremiah, when you marry Jessica, make sure you have a son,” another person chimed in.
Jeremiah glanced at Hathaway and said, “Not necessarily.”
Everyone assumed he meant he might not have a son, so they didn’t think much of it.
After a few more rounds on the court, Kieran called out with a grin, “Let’s take a break and grab some food together.
Jeremiah replied casually. “It’s dinner time.”
“Mr. Blackwood, we’ll have to pass. Our family’s used to waiting for us at dinner,” Avery said, glancing ar Hathaway, whose expression was growing more strained. “Let’s call it a day. We’ll catch up next time. We‘ heading home now.”
The two of them hirned to leave. Hathaway stayed silent the whole way, not once looking back
It wasn’t until they’d walked quite a distance that she could faintly see a beary gaze lingering on hier back.
Once they were in the car and the door clicked shut. Hathaway turned to Avery, her tone a bu tore somber

Chapter 185
“Avery, Jeremiah was a little too touchy with me”
Avery glanced at her in silence.
He started to say something, but closed his mouth and stayed quiet.
He was a good brother, he didn’t want to upset her.
The silence between them was deafening.
Or maybe, Avery guessed, Hathaway was saying whatever it took to keep him away from Jeremiah.
In the end, Avery didn’t say anything. He started the car and drove off.
The rest of the group quickly said, ‘Mr. Blackwood, how about we all go to Fortune Gate for dinner?”
“Next time. Something came up out of the blue,” Jeremiah replied.
Kieran thought to himself, “Wow, that was out of nowhere.
A few minutes ago, everything was totally normal.
Now, things flipped out of nowhere.
But Kieran kept up the polite front. “Mr. Blackwood, you always have a million things on your plate. Guess we’ll have to catch up next time.”
Jeremiah got into his car and sent the photo he’d snapped to Scarlett.
Scarlett’s phone lit up, and she picked it up, opening the message almost instantly.
It was a photo of a girl. She was dressed in a polo shirt and a short skirt, with simple, clean white sneakers on her feet. She looked fresh and radiant, and really stood out in the crowd.
Her legs were long and shapely, and from her silhouette, it was obvious she was a total knockout.
The photo only showed her profile, her long lashes casting soft shadows under her eyes, giving her a quiet, captivating charm.
Scarlett zoomed in on the photo, then called Jeremiah. “She’s wearing a baseball cap, so I can’t really see her face.
Jeremiah replied in a flat tone, “Forget it. It’s not important anymore”
Scarlett echoed, puzzled. “Not important anymore!”
“Yeah Jeremialy said.

Chapter 135
He hung up, started the car, and drove off
Preston finally got out of jail after shelling out a ton of compensation to get his clients to forgive him, which was the only reason he got probation.
Elizabeth had been waiting at home for him. When she saw him, her eyes grew misty “May you have peace and safety from now on.”
Preston silently entered the living room. All he could feel was the heavy weight of the Kingsley Group’s mess pressing down on his heart.
The servants had all been let go, the Kingsley Group was shut down, and their partners were all pulling out.
In the dining room, Melanie looked at her husband, who was haggard and worn out, and she looked worse.
Jessica didn’t call him Dad this time.
Felix, who’d gone to pick him up, came in from the back and said, “Come on, let’s get Dad something to eat
Preston sat down and said, “Let’s invite Jeremiah over for dinner tomorrow. Let’s see what he thinks we should do next.
He knew full well this would put Jessica in a tough spot.
But right now, in all of Bayridge, the only one with the power and the guts to save the Kingsley Group was Jeremiah. He was the Kingsley family’s previous lifeline.
Jessica suddenly looked up, her voice full of resistance. “I don’t agree. He’s already helped us so much. If we keep asking, the Blackwood family will think less of me,”
“I get it,” Preston replied hoarsely. “It’s my fault for getting you involved.
As soon as he said that, all the feelings Jessica had been holding back finally burst out.
Her eyes reddened, her voice shaky with frustration and despair as she blurted out, “Getting me involved? What good does saying that do now?
“You went and changed the materials and cut costs without talking to me. It was obviously shady, but you fell for their sweet talk. Why are you always so gullible?
