Chapter 147
In the dream, the cold, damp wall loomed before him, and right in the center was that deep, black word “regret, pressing down on his vision.
This time, his mind was clear. He slowly raised his hand, with veins bulging on the back, fingertips rough and stiff, nothing like his own.
Jeremiah woke up from the dream in the morning.
He let his arm rest casually across his forehead. This time, he wasn’t drenched in cold sweat. Instead, he slowly curled his lips into a silent smile.
He’d finally figured out the pattern.
Whenever Hathaway cried, he would almost always have this dream at night, without fail, every single time. It had become a habit he couldn’t shake.
The next day, Whitmore Group went all out with a massive investigation.
Hathaway and Avery camped out at the factory, checking the employee punch–in records against the list of people on leave, combing through every detail for any possible clues.
The accident at Whitmore Group had already become the talk of the town, and the fallout was bad. The site was cordoned off, the police had launched an official investigation, and the local TV station had covered the incident.
But what really weighed on Avery and Hathaway wasn’t the company’s reputation anymore; it was the fact that no family had come forward to claim the body.
The company had already braced for the worst, with compensation and settlement funds ready and waiting All they needed was for the family to show up so they could finally put this behind them.
But in the end, not a single person came to claim the body.
Avery had been making calls nonstop, and the police showed up early in the morning
There was no surveillance in the corner where the accident happened, but the gate camera caught someone riding in on an electric scooter at dusk, wearing a uniform and a helmet.
The helmet was odd, with a full black visor, so his face was completely hidden. He was about victim and could very well be the one behind the accident. Nobody at the factory had any idea who he was
like the
That pretty much confirmed it, he wasn’t an employer of Whitmore Group.
Something about this doesn’t sit right Hathaway thought to herself as she lay in bed that night, her mad racing with doubia

Chapter 147
That night, back at home, the more Hathaway mulled it over, the more uneasy she felt. If the dead guy wasn’t one of their factory workers, then this was definitely no ordinary accident. Something was seriously off
The thought creeped her out so much that after her shower, she couldn’t bring herself to sleep alone
Hugging her blanket and pillow, Hathaway marched straight into Avery’s room. I want to sleep between you and Celeste tonight, she announced.
Avery scowled. “Seriously, you should hurry up and get yourself a boyfriend. Zachary seems pretty decent Then you’ll have someone to cuddle with at night.”
Celeste chuckled softly and stepped in to smooth things over. “Let Hathaway sleep with me tonight. Avery You go crash in the guest room.”
Celeste only knew someone had died at the factory. When Avery and Sylvia filled her in later, she shrugged it off. Nothing about it fazed her.
Hathaway heard Celeste agree and immediately hopped onto the bed without a second thought.
Avery couldn’t help but be both amused and exasperated seeing how genuinely scared Hathaway looked
But remembering what Dane said about her being brave earlier, he asked, “Didn’t the manager say you were trying to piece the body together at the factory? How come you’re suddenly so freaked out now?”
Celeste’s eyes went wide. “Seriously? Hathaway, you weren’t freaked out at all?”
Hathaway really thought it was Avery back then, and all she wanted was to make sure he was all in one piece. When it’s family, everything else fades. Blood ties drown out any fear.
But now, she didn’t want to revisit those images. She wanted to clear her mind and get some rest. “Okay, enough talk. Let’s sleep.”
Avery grabbed his pillow and ruffled Hathaway’s hair affectionately.
As he was about to head out, Hathaway suddenly called after him.
“Wait, Avery. Actually, I think I’ll go to sleep with Mom tonight!”
Avery paused and looked back at her. “Changed your mind again?”
Hathaway said, “I move around a lot when I sleep. What if I accidentally kick her in the stormacht? Thai wouldn’t be good.”
Celeste quickly reassured her in a gentle voice, “Don’t worry, I’ll be careful. It’s no big deal?
But after hearing that, Avery got a bit concerned and said, “Okay, better go deep with Mom then
Hathaway grabbed her blanket and pillow and beaded straight for Sylvia’s room
The room was filled with a faint, calming sent, which instantly sooled the une is in her heart.

Chapter 147
Sylvia was already lying down, so Hathaway quietly climbed into bed, wrapped herself up in the soft blankets, and curled up like a caterpillar in its cocoon.
Sylvia smiled and gently patted her. “What brings you here? Can’t sleep?”
Hathaway scooted closer to Sylvia, breathing in the familiar scent that always made her feel safe. Tm scared tonight, Mom. Can I sleep with you?” she muttered.
Sylvia gently patted her back. “It’s been ages since I got to hold you while you slept. I really miss it.”
“Me too,” Hathaway replied, blinking drowsily. She hadn’t slept well last night and had been running around all day. Now she could barely keep her eyes open.
“Sweetheart, what kind of guy do you like?” Sylvia asked.
Hathaway mumbled, “Someone who’s as good to me as Dad was.”
H
“Do you think Zachary is really that good?” Sylvia asked, clearly seeming to like the young man.
Before drifting off to sleep, Hathaway murmured, “I’ll have to watch and see.
Vivian would never approve of Hathaway being with her stepson.
Hathaway preferred to keep things simple and avoid unnecessary drama.
When Preston got home, he filled his family in on everything he’d heard about the Whitmore family, his expression a mix of confusion and disbelief. “Rumor has it, Avery was rescued by Jeremiah.”
Jessica had seen the story about the Whitmore family in the paper, too, and she figured this might be her shot to bring Whitmore Group down.
No way Jeremiah would actually go out of his way to save Avery, she thought.
Preston turned to Jessica. “Is Jeremiah really getting close to Avery these days?”
Jessica shook her head. “No way. I’ve been with him for ages, and he’s never called Avery, let alone me up with him.
“They don’t get along at all. Honestly, I’m pretty sure the news got it wrong. Most likely, it was
