The Billionaire Heir Fell for the Wrong Girl (Hathaway Whitmore) novel Chapter 148

Chapter 148

At the police station, Jeremiah finished giving his statement and stood up. The chief personally walked him to the door, his tone respectful. Mr. Blackwood, thanks for coming in today.

Hathaway stood at the end of the hallway, watching as Jeremiah and Avery came out. She and Jeremiah exchanged a glance, and then Hathaway moved to stand on Avery’s other side.

As they walked out of the police station. Avery turned to Jeremiah. Mr. Blackwood, want to grab a bite together?

Jeremiah glanced at Hathaway. I already have plans today, but let’s do it another time.

Before Avery could say anything else, Jeremiah nodded, got into his black car, and drove off.

Watching the car disappear around the corner, Avery chuckled and said to Hathaway, I thought he’d been in a better mood lately. Figured he’d actually say yes this time.

That’s Jeremiah for you, always hot and cold,Hathaway said. Don’t bother getting too close to him.

As she spoke, Hathaway looked away. The two of them got into the car, and Avery started the engine, saying, Maybe he really did have plans.

At the hotel restaurant, Jeremiah had sat down when Scarlett arrived and took the seat across from him. Scarlett looked up at him, her tone calm. The day you asked about before, I was definitely working the front desk at the hotel. I saw it clearly. It was Jessica who went in with you, not Hathaway.

Jeremiah’s face stayed neutral, his voice giving nothing away. Is that so? Do you finally know who Hathaway really is?

At that, Scarlett’s lips curled into a teasing smile. I saw you kissing her right there in the middle of the street, so I guessed she was the one you were asking about.

Jeremiah didn’t look the least bit bothered by being called out. He said flatly, I could kiss whoever I want.Scarlett looked up, surprised. Is he seriously not believing this? she wondered.

She pulled out her phone, tapped open a video, and slid it across the table to him. I got that on video, soi had it checked. That’s how I knew it was her.

Jeremiah stared at the screen

On the screen, right in the middle of a busy square, Hathaway was grinning as she hugged Calvin her face beaming with happiness

Jeremiah’s eyes were shadowed emotions churning beneath the surface, but he stayed silent for a long

moment

Scarlett smiled, Looks like you’re not happy with my answer?

Jeremiah didn’t say a word. He pulled a bracelet out of his pocket and set it down on the table. Ever seen this before?

The bracelet was made of smooth, round rose quartz beads, glowing with a gentle, warm light. The crystals were clear and pure, with a soft, misty pink hue.

A delicate silver chain held them together, and at the end, there was a tiny heart charm, its color soft and elegant.

Scarlett had come prepared, but now her heart skipped a beat. Does this have anything to do with what we’re talking about? she wondered.

All she could manage was, It does look kind of familiar.

Jeremiah put the bracelet away. A front desk clerk making 1,400 dollars a month. After rent, food, and everything else, no way you could afford a bracelet that costs over 6,000 dollars. So, where did you really see

it?

Scarlett frowned. He knows how much I made back then? He’s really dug up everything about me, she thought.

Just because I couldn’t afford it doesn’t mean someone else couldn’t haveshe said.

Jeremiah’s lips twitched ever so slightly. Let me guess, you’re about to say someone gave it to you?

Scarlett was about to say exactly that. How did you know?

Jeremiah stood up, a playful smirk on his face. Oh? I bet the same person gave it to both of you.

Meanwhile, Hathaway had arrived at the office. After grabbing a quick bite in the cafeteria, she headed into a meeting. Half an hour later, Avery came over and said, The Kingsley family is making moves again

This time, they’ve set up a new company under Jessica’s name. From the looks of it, she might outdo her father:

Hathaway listened quietly, her face giving nothing away. In her previous life, the Kingsley Group hadn’t been destroyed, and Jessica had never started a new company, so Hathaway had no idea if Jessica would actually succeed this time.

But with Jeremiah backing her up. Jessica was bound to make it.

Clients would flock to her because she’s known as Jerennial’s Bancée.

After work, Hathaway went back to her bedroom and closed the doci. She opened a drawer and took taita bny tooth, carefully preserved. She ran her fingers over its cold edge

At nine o’clock. Hathaway was still working on her computer when her phone suddenly rang An unifamiliar

number flashed across the screen, but she ignored it and kept typing

The ringtone kept ringing nonstop. As soon as it stopped, it started up again, over and over

Hathaway frowned and picked up.

Jeremiah’s voice was icy and commanding. Come out now, or I’ll come to your house and drag you out myself.”

Hathaway grabbed the first jacket she could find and threw it on, not bothering to fix her hair. As she headed downstairs, Sylvia and Celeste were still chatting.

Watching as Hathaway hurried out with her phone in hand, Sylvia called out, Where are you going

Hathaway replied quickly, Food delivery’s here, picking it up.

Once they got started on baby talk, Sylvia and Celeste could go on forever.

When Hathaway stepped outside, the car door swung open, and before she could react. Jeremiah pulled her right into his arms and sat her down on his lap, keeping her close.

The next second, his lips crashed down on hers, hungry with all the pentup desire he’d been holding back.

Hathaway tried to push him away, but he wouldn’t let go.

When he finally released her, Hathaway turned her head away, her face clouded with anger. Don’t make me think less of you. Coming to me when you already have a girlfriend, seriously?
