Chapter 156

Twenty minutes went by, and the door handle kept clicking from inside the car. It was clear Hathaway kept trying to get out, but the door was locked.
Victor was waiting outside, the car keys in his pocket. He’d taken them with him when he got out.
Jeremiah had been drinking, so there was no way he could drive. Victor could only wait.
Victor reached into his pocket for a cigarette, but accidentally hit the car key fob. The headlights flashed.
Suddenly, the car door popped open from the inside.
Hathaway was straddling Jeremiah, face to face, as he lifted his gaze to her.
Her floral skirt was rumpled, sprawled across his suit pants, and the delicate earrings she’d worn had vanished.
Her eyes shimmered with tears, her face was very pale, and a hint of red at the corners of her eyes made her look heartbreakingly delicate.
Victor walked over, saw the scene for himself, and was completely shocked.
Jeremiah clearly hadn’t expected her to open the door. He shot Victor a sharp look.
“Sorry, Mr. Blackwood. I pressed it by accident.” Victor was sweating bullets as he rushed to shut the door again.
Jeremiah wrapped his arm around Hathaway’s back and said, “You drive.”
Victor let out a sigh of relief. At least they were making out. If things had gone any further, he probably would’ve been fired on the spot.
Victor got into the driver’s seat, and Jeremiah had already let go of Hathaway. They were both sitting properly

Victor drove quietly, and halfway through the ride, he realized Bathaway seemed to be crying
Jeremiah was whispering to her, saying things like. “Didn’t I say no crying?” and “If you cry again therell bea penalty.
He kept talking to her, like he was comforting his girl.
Hathaway didn’t say a word the whole time.
Even when she cried, it was slept.

Chapter 156
Victor kept his eyes on the road. He really wanted to sneak a look at the back sear in the rearview mirror but he managed to hold himself back.
He knew better than to get too curious about his boss’s business.
Still, Victor couldn’t help but wonder.
Is Mr. Blackwood really planning to make Ms. Whitmore his secret lover? he thought. Is this really what Ms Whitmore wants?
After all, she was an heiress from a prestigious family.
Would her brother, Avery, really let her be someone’s secret lover without any official status? he thought. And what about Mr. Blackwood’s official girlfriend, Ms. Kingsley?
If Jessica ever found out Mr. Blackwood had a secret lover, there’s no way she’d put up with it
Before he knew it, Victor had dropped Hathaway off at the Whitmore residence.
Hathaway stepped out of the car and hurried inside, not orice glancing back.
Jeremiah didn’t look away until her silhouette vanished. He closed his eyes and said, “Let’s go
Hathaway went straight to her room, pulled out her phone, and started spamming Calvin with messages. [Calvin, did Jeremiah die in the end?]
[He must have died, right?
[He’s dead, isn’t he?]
Calvin was out at a business dinner when Hathaway’s messages started flooding his phone she was obviously
upset
He was straightforward about it. [Yeah, he’s dead.]
Hathaway fixed her eyes on the message, and all the restless worry and irritation she’d been feeling vanished instantly
She let out a quiet laugh, her whole body relaxing as she flopped onto the soft, fluffy bed, finally able to breathe again, without a care in the world.

She let out a soft sigh and decided to let it go.
No point asking. Hathaway thought.

In her previous life, she’d been tormented by poison, agonizing until her last breath. If jeremiah got to die peacefully, she’d actually be pissed.
Tll pretend he died in agony. That makes me feel better, she thought.
That night, after a shower, Hathaway actually managed to sleep well for once.
The next day, Leo called. “Hathaway, how are you doing after last night?”
Tm good! Hathaway said, her voice light.
Leo let out a sigh of relief. “Glad to hear that.”
Hathaway was already at work when Aurelia came over to let her know about a meeting. She quickly said to Leo, “Next time we’re out together, don’t drink, okay?”
And with that, she quickly hung up.
Leo couldn’t help but feel a little emotional. Hathaway really trusted him.
Good thing Jeremiah said he’d only help him out this once. After that, it was out of his hands. He’d never help a second time.
Jeremiah still hadn’t gone to the office. After his morning run, Eleanor caught sight of the dark circles under his eyes again.
Eleanor asked, “Didn’t sleep well?”
Yeah, another nightmare. Jeremiah thought.
But honestly, compared to the sweet moments he’d had with Hathaway, those nightmares at night didn’t
matter.
Thinking about it, Jeremiah found himself smiling
Eleanor noticed he seemed to be in a good mood and was about to ask him something,
Jeremiah spoke up first. “Mom, if I don’t marry Hathaway. I’ll lose thirty percent of the company’s shares. Doct iy time we got this done!
