Jeremiah was out of the office on a business trip.

As soon as Jessica arrived at the office building, she went straight to the CEO’s office. She glanced at the new secretary and called out, “Come out here for a second.”

Zoe stepped out, still a bit lost, not sure what was going on, and met Jessica’s scrutinizing gaze.

“When did things start between you and Mr. Blackwood?” Jessica asked.

Zoe froze, her face full of confusion. She had no idea what Jessica was talking about and shook her head, looking lost.

Seeing Zoe acting all sweet and clueless, Jessica felt more irritated. Her voice was laced with sarcasm. “With your mediocre education and zero experience, there’s no way you’d ever get a position like this next to Mr. Blackwood.

“Who got you in here?”

Zoe had indeed been handpicked by Hadrian. Back then, she was a part-time waitress at a restaurant.

“You know what?” Jessica said coldly. “Jeremiah can’t stand idiots. There used to be this girl hanging around him.

“An absolute airhead, gorgeous beyond belief, way out of your league. But she was so clueless, he never looked her way.”

Jessica gave a mocking little laugh as she remembered. “She’d fake twisting her ankle to fall into his arms, or pretend she couldn’t swim so he’d reach out and save her.

“Once or twice, maybe a guy finds it cute, messes around a bit. But do it enough times, and it comes off as fake and makes people sick of you.”

Jessica’s face went cold, clearly done talking about people she couldn’t stand. “He’ll be here soon. Good.”

Zoe froze for a second, then snapped back to reality, a stubborn glint in her eyes as she met Jessica’s gaze. “I’m getting fired? It should be Mr. Blackwood who says so. Who are you to make that call for him?”

Jessica let out a cold, mocking laugh. “Jeremiah has a million things on his plate. He’s not going to waste time on someone as insignificant as you. Guess you don’t know who I am, do you?”

Jessica bit her lip, a hint of smugness in her eyes. “I’m Jeremiah’s girlfriend. So, don’t you think that gives me the right to be in charge of you?”

Zoe’s face instantly went pale. She instinctively took a step back, completely tongue-tied.

Rumor had it around the office that Jeremiah was always cold and distant with everyone, except when it came to his girlfriend. With her, he was especially attentive and indulgent.

Now that Jessica had revealed her identity, a wave of panic surged through Zoe, and she couldn’t help but shrink back, fear written all over her face.

Jessica caught every bit of Zoe’s fear and panic, and inwardly scoffed. Without another word, she turned and headed straight for HR.

When Jessica got to the HR office, the manager looked uneasy after hearing her request. “Ms. Kingsley. Zoe was specifically placed here by Mr. Lockwood, and Mr. Blackwood gave his approval.

“We really can’t fire her without his say-so.”

Jessica’s expression darkened.

The manager said cautiously, “Maybe we should check with Victor first?”

Jessica frowned. “Where’s Victor?”

“Victor is on a business trip with Mr. Blackwood. He’s not in the office right now,” the manager replied.

The HR manager immediately called Victor. After a quick conversation, the answer was clear. “No need to fire Zoe.”

The manager was caught off guard by this. Isn’t this basically making Mr. Blackwood’s girlfriend look bad? he thought.
