The Billionaire Heir Fell for the Wrong Girl (Hathaway Whitmore) novel Chapter 164

Chapter 164

Lucas’s engagement party set the whole city abuzz, with rumors and gossip flying everywhere.

Hathaway holed up at home, shutting herself off from everyone and refusing to let anyone in.

But then the rumors suddenly took a turn. People started saying Lucas got flustered at the engagement party and ended up grabbing the wrong girl in the chaos.

Someone posted a photo of his actual girlfriend, and the picture had been tweaked to make her look more like Hathaway.

With that, the gossip finally settled down, and the Whitmore family let out a collective sigh of relief.

But after days of being cooped up, Hathaway felt like she couldn’t breathe.

Leo and Evelyn tried to get her to go out and have some fun, but she couldn’t bring herself to leave the house.

Then, one day, Zachary showed up out of the blue.

When Sylvia saw him, her eyes sparkled with joy and surprise. She quickly called upstairs, “Hathaway, Mr. Sutton is here! Why don’t you go out for a walk with him?”

Hathaway came downstairs and saw Zachary standing there.

He was dressed in a crisp, clean light-colored suit that made him look both warm and composed.

His features carried a refined, bookish charm, and it was as if he was surrounded by a gentle, soothing glow that made everyone around him feel calm and reassured.

“Zachary,” Hathaway called out.

Zachary looked up, his gaze landing on her as she came down the stairs. A gentle smile appeared on his lips. “I got myself a new ride.

“I remember you used to race, so I thought maybe you’d like to see what it can do. How about we take it for a spin together?”

Hathaway didn’t really know much about cars, but she smiled and agreed.

Sylvia finally felt like she could breathe again, seeing her daughter finally willing to step outside.

Before they left, Zachary said, “Don’t worry, Mrs. Whitmore. I’ll take good care of Hathaway and get her back safe and sound tonight.”

“Really appreciate it, Zachary,” Sylvia replied, her voice full of relief.

Waving, the two of them walked outside side by side. They looked absolutely perfect together.

“Mary, look at this pair! They’re a match made in heaven!”

Sylvia’s eyes lit up with happiness.

Zachary really is something special, Sylvia thought to herself.

The car headed straight for the coast.

They pulled up to a scenic overlook right by the ocean.

The salty sea breeze, cool and crisp, hit Hathaway in the face, slowly blowing away all the gloom and heaviness she’d been carrying for days.

As she and Zachary kept chatting about anything that came to mind, Hathaway felt herself finally loosening up. I can actually breathe again, she thought.

By the time noon rolled around, Leo called, asking if they wanted to grab lunch together.

Hathaway turned to Zachary and quietly asked if he’d like to join her and meet her friends.

Zachary nodded with a relaxed smile. “I’m good with whatever you decide.”

Evelyn was riding in Leo’s car, teasing him the whole way. “You’re such a weakling. You can’t push Lucas around.”

Leo shot back, “I’m not about to mess with him. If things blow up and the Reed family gets wiped out, I’d be dead, and you’d sit back and enjoy the drama. Not letting you have that kind of fun. Besides, he’s impossible to budge.”

Evelyn rolled her eyes. “Why don’t you join the army and toughen up for a couple of years?”

Leo replied, “I’m the only one left in the Reed family. My grandpa won’t let me enlist.”

Evelyn didn’t hold back. “Your grandpa really has it rough. One grandson’s a nutcase, the other’s a weakling. Neither of you gives him a break. He’s worried sick.”

Leo was speechless.
