The Billionaire Heir Fell for the Wrong Girl (Hathaway Whitmore) novel Chapter 166

Chapter 166

Sylvia had been holed up at home for ages, but today, she finally stepped out.

Freya Holmgren, a wealthy and influential woman in Bayridge, had reached out to Sylvia, inviting her to stroll through gardens, sip coffee, and attend various charity galas together.

The real catch was that Freya had a son.

That day, Sylvia met up with Freya for coffee. They hit it off right away, chatting and laughing like old friends. As they were about to leave, they exchanged their kids’ contact info with a knowing smile.

No words needed, both fully aware this was all about setting up a blind date.

The next day, which happened to be the weekend, Declan Holmgren set up a blind date with Hathaway.

Declan arrived at the café a few minutes early, treating it as another setup by the elders, nothing special, nothing to get worked up about. That was until Hathaway walked in and sat down across from him.

His eyes widened ever so slightly. He hadn’t expected Hathaway to be so stunning. Her beauty was so striking that the moment she walked in, everyone in the café turned to look.

“Did I come to the wrong place?” Declan murmured.

“Mr. Holmgren?” Hathaway said as Declan asked, “Did I come to the wrong place?”

They both spoke at once.

Hathaway walked over to the table, offered a polite nod, and said gently, “Sorry if I kept you waiting.”

Declan shook off his surprise, stood up, and pulled out her chair for her. “Not at all, I got here myself. Honestly, I didn’t expect you to be so impressive, Ms. Whitmore.”

They exchanged a few polite words. Declan ran an art gallery and seemed to know a bit about everything; he could pick up any topic and run with it. Hathaway felt pretty comfortable chatting with him.

As they chatted, Hathaway happened to glance down from the second-floor railing, and her heart suddenly plummeted.

Downstairs, Nina was crossing the street, heading straight toward the café.

Hathaway stiffened in fear, her complexion fading bit by bit. She glanced at Declan across the table, gripping her purse so tightly her knuckles turned white. Deep inside, an overwhelming urge to bolt surged up.

Nina was one of Jeremiah’s most trusted aides.

Lately, she kept popping up around Hathaway.

Is she following me? Hathaway wondered.

“What’s wrong?” Declan noticed her sudden change in expression and asked softly, “You look a bit pale.”

Her mind was all over the place. She needed to find some excuse to get out of here fast.

Her gaze drifted across the café, and she happened to spot Jessica and Elaine walking in together.

When she saw Jessica’s familiar face, Hathaway’s nerves finally started to unwind.

Guess I was freaking out for nothing, Hathaway thought.

Nina’s attention was on Jessica. She wasn’t after Hathaway.

Elaine, sharp-eyed as ever, immediately spotted Hathaway sitting by the window with a guy she didn’t recognize. He was pretty average in the looks department; sure, he carried himself well, but he was nothing compared to Lucas.

Elaine shot them a look of barely concealed contempt. She tightened her grip on Jessica’s arm on purpose and sat down at a table uncomfortably close to them.

After listening to Declan for a bit, Elaine rolled her eyes and sneered. “So it really is a blind date. I can’t believe someone like her would actually agree to this; she must be starving for attention.”

Jessica nodded, still in disbelief. She never thought Hathaway would really go along with a blind date arranged by the family.

Jessica had been worried sick. Jeremiah had gone so far as to shove Lucas into the pool, all for Hathaway.

But now, seeing Hathaway sitting here so calmly on a blind date, Jessica finally felt a wave of relief wash over her.

Looks like there’s really nothing going on between Hathaway and Jeremiah, Jessica thought. If she really had something with Jeremiah, would she be here on a blind date?

She’d have thrown herself into his arms ages ago.

With that thought, Jessica couldn’t help but smirk to herself. All the knots in her chest suddenly came undone, and she felt a whole lot lighter.

She turned to Elaine, her voice teasing. “She’s totally playing the classy lady, pretending not to care about looks. Acting all high and mighty, but I bet she’s secretly cursing the matchmaker a thousand times over.”

“Tell me about it,” Elaine jumped in without missing a beat.
