The Billionaire Heir Fell for the Wrong Girl (Hathaway Whitmore) novel Chapter 167

Chapter 167

On the day of her blind date, Hathaway wore a beige suit, her usual understated look.

But the last time she met with Zachary, she went all out with her outfit, really putting in the effort. She definitely had a special attitude toward Zachary.

Jeremiah took it all in, and two days later, when he had a moment, he called Darius. “Darius, are you free? Let’s grab a cup of coffee.”

Darius knew Jeremiah never called unless he had something important to discuss, so he replied right away, “Sure, Jeremiah. I’m free now.”

Jeremiah headed straight to a quiet, elegant coffee house.

After a bit of small talk, Jeremiah got straight to the point, mentioning that Zachary was working at his own tech company.

Darius had only recently learned that Zachary had quietly returned to the country and started working, all thanks to Vivian making a scene.

He looked a bit embarrassed. “Jeremiah, I’m sorry for causing you trouble.”

Jeremiah spoke slowly, “Zachary insisted on signing only a two-year contract with my company. Honestly, I think he’s got something else planned for his future in the country.”

With Zachary’s skills, anyone in a key tech role would normally sign a five-year contract. A two-year deal is pretty odd.

Jeremiah suspected Zachary was holding out hope that Hathaway would reconsider.

He still wanted to join Whitmore Group, all because of Hathaway herself.

Jeremiah tightened his grip on his cup.

If Zachary really managed to get into Whitmore Group, he’d have plenty of chances to get close to Hathaway at work. And then Jeremiah would have no place in Hathaway’s life anymore.

Jeremiah knew without a doubt. If Hathaway ever found out how Zachary felt, she’d be rushing back to him like a butterfly drawn to a flower.

Besides, the Whitmore family seemed pretty open-minded and didn’t care much about social status or family background.

If it weren’t for Vivian’s tangled situation getting in the way, the Whitmore family would have no problem welcoming Zachary.

If it really came to that and both of them were chasing after each other, things would get messier for Jeremiah.

Thinking about this, Jeremiah shifted gears and looked at Darius. “Darius, you had no choice but to send Zachary abroad back then. He grew up all alone, but still turned out so impressive.

“I bet deep down, you’ve always hoped he could come back home and reclaim his place in the Sutton family, right?”

Darius gave a bitter smile. “Yeah, that’s true.”

But when he married Vivian, everything was spelled out in black and white. His son would be raised by his ex-wife.

Then his ex-wife passed away unexpectedly, and if Zachary came back to the Sutton family, Vivian would only hold it against him.

Vivian had a fiery temper and always stood up for herself, plus her family had deep roots and serious influence.

Reginald and Jeremiah were both big shots. Darius never dared to let himself imagine it.

“Jeremiah, I’m really afraid your aunt will blow up,” Darius said, his voice full of helplessness, and you could see how conflicted he was in his eyes.

Jeremiah cut to the chase. “Whatever Aunt Vivian wants, I’ll make sure she gets it.

“She’s always been the apple of Grandpa and Dad’s eye, so she’s used to getting whatever she wants. Leave her to me. You don’t have to worry about a thing.

“Bring Zachary back to the Sutton family and arrange a proper marriage for him. That way, you won’t have to worry anymore.”

Jeremiah’s gaze grew serious. “Mia gets along well with Lorenzo. She won’t mind having another brother in the family.”

Darius paused, looking at the young man who seemed to have everything under control. He hesitated before asking, “Jeremiah, are you really trying to help me?”
