Elaine couldn’t hold back her hurt and frustration. As soon as she got home, she broke down in tears.

Spencer’s face darkened instantly, his voice icy. “Did Mr. Blackwood really say you two were a good match?”

Elaine nodded, her heart full of humiliation and grievance.

Spencer’s frown deepened, and he let out a bitter laugh. “So, in his eyes, my daughter is nothing worth mentioning.”

Melanie nodded. “This makes sense now. They must’ve been discussing something serious, and you walked in and interrupted. That’s probably why Jeremiah acted so cold.”

Elizabeth jumped in to offer some advice. “Elaine, you need to pay more attention to the situation and timing. Don’t rush in and mess up someone else’s business.”

Elaine realized she’d been too abrupt and apologized to Jessica. “I’m sorry, Jessica.”

Jessica’s expression softened a little. “It’s fine.”

She didn’t say anything else and quietly turned to go back to her room.

By dinner time, Preston had come home.

After a few rounds of comforting and advice, Spencer and Charlotte had calmed down, and they looked perfectly normal. The family gathered for dinner like nothing had happened.

Jessica sat quietly through dinner. At one point, Spencer tried to get her to play matchmaker for Calvin and Elaine, but Jessica turned him down. “He already has someone he likes.”

Jessica still hadn’t figured things out with Jeremiah, so she wasn’t about to meddle in anyone else’s drama.

After dinner, she headed back to her room.

Jessica knew deep down that Jeremiah had really changed.
