“She didn’t object when you called her that? Jeremiah asked, his tone stiff.

Milo didn’t understand why Jeremiah was so hung up on a simple nickname. “Why would she object?”

Jeremiah’s mind was unsettled, and his once–aggressive moves gradually lost their edge. The rhythm of the game slipped away, and after several back–and–forth exchanges, they ended up locked in a stalemate.

Jeremiah stood up, his expression unreadable. “You’re a formidable opponent, Mr. Carmichael.”

He had no intention of lingering. His thoughts were far from the chessboard. As soon as he stepped outside, he called Victor. “Book two tickets to Forburge. I’m going on vacation.”

Victor was stunned. With the company drowning in work, he couldn’t believe Jeremiah had the time for a vacation. He asked cautiously, “Mr. Blackwood, one ticket is for you. Who’s the other for?”

Jeremiah’s gaze was cold. Without hesitation, he replied, “Jessica.”

After hanging up, Jeremiah had barely settled into his car when Victor called again.

“Mr. Blackwood, I checked the flights. Even if you leave now, you won’t get to Forburge until late at night. Driving those mountain roads after dark is way too risky. You and Ms. Kingsley should wait and head out tomorrow instead, Victor advised.

Jeremiah tapped his fingers on the steering wheel, silent for a moment. “Then tomorrow.”

Jeremiah had originally planned to have Darius hand over the company’s affairs to Zachary. Once Zachary, who was a tech guy, took over, he’d be buried in paperwork and busy work, too swamped to think about Hathaway.

But before that could get settled, Milo suddenly popped up out of nowhere.

With rivals showing up one after another, Jeremiah felt a surge of anger and frustration building up inside him. Instead of letting others circle like vultures, he might as well take matters into his own hands.

Meanwhile, when Jessica got the news from Victor, she couldn’t help but feel a rush of excitement bubbling up inside her.

It didn’t take long for Melanie to hear that her daughter was going on a trip with Jeremiah, and she was over the moon with joy.

“Jessica, make sure you dress up and look your best. A woman should know how to leave a lasting impression without being too obvious. If something special happens between you two on this trip, that would be wonderful, Melanie said.

Jessica lowered her gaze, her long lashes hiding the storm of emotions in her eyes. She’d already made up her mind.

Now, she didn’t care about pride, boundaries, or any worries anymore. She’d tossed all that aside.

Picturing a soft, sweet child calling Jeremiah “Daddy” and snuggling up to her, calling her ‘Mommy, made Jessica’s heart flutter with a gentle sweetness, and she couldn’t help but smile.

She murmured, “Is having a child really that important?”

The Kingsley family answered without hesitation, “Absolutely.”

Hathaway took a four–hour flight, then endured a two–hour winding drive through the mountains before at last reaching the lavender resort hidden deep among the hills.

Far from the city, rolling hills were blanketed with blooming purple lavender as far as the eye could see, and the air was laced with a soft, lingering floral fragrance.

When she arrived at the resort, Hathaway found a few strangers, men and women, who were basically friends of friends, barely related to her through distant ties to the Bergen family.
