The Billionaire Heir Fell for the Wrong Girl (Hathaway Whitmore) novel Chapter 3

Chapter 3 The Rich Kids’s Circle

In the dead of night, when everything was silent, Hathaway jolted awake from a nightmare.

In the dream, a pair of terrifying eyes had stared her down, torturing her until she felt worse than dead.

In her previous life, Jeremiah had given Jessica the art gallery under his own name, his entertainment company, and even the Whitmore Group he’d stolen from Hathaway’s family.

Of course Hathaway hated him to the core.

Looking at Blackwood Group’s business empire, its reach was huge, with countless industries under its name. Among them, the tech company had the best future. But right now, it hadn’t yet reached its peak.

Hathaway decided to move first. She would buy the chip factory Jeremiah had planned to acquire and poach the core team from Blackwood Tech. That was the key to breaking the game in this new life.

But first, she needed money.

In the Whitmore family, Mary, the maid, was usually the first to wake up.

She had to make breakfast for the four members of the family, as well as breakfast for herself and Benson, the butler. After that, she would head to the supermarket for groceries.

But this morning, when she got up early and saw a slim figure sitting in the living room through the haze of sleep, she jumped in fright. “Oh, Ms. Whitemore? You’re up so early today?”

Hathaway said, “Morning, Mary, could you please find all the newspapers from the past few months and bring them to me?”

“Sure.” Mary thought it was strange, but she didn’t ask too many questions. She pulled a thick stack of newspapers from a dusty corner and carried them over. “Ma’am, what do you need them for?”

“Checking something.” After saying that, Hathaway hugged the newspapers to her chest and hurried back to her room.

She spread them out across the floor and started reading.

The first thing she needed to do was use her memories from her previous life to buy the chip factory that was close to going bankrupt, along with a few stocks that were sure to skyrocket.

The only problem was, she couldn’t remember the chip factory’s name.

During that time, Conrad, Sylvia, and Avery all woke up. Sylvia even brought Hathaway breakfast and told her to eat it soon, but Hathaway didn’t seem to hear her at all.

Hours later, the constant pinging of message notifications finally pulled her out of her thoughts.

Hathaway picked up her phone and saw that the rich kids’s group chat her friend, Lucas Reed, had created was blowing up. One name kept appearing again and again: Jessica.

Seeing that name again made Hathaway’s breath catch.

[The Blackwood family’s really grateful to Jessica for saving Jeremiah.][Looks like Jeremiah fell for Jessica. Someone spotted them on a date at a restaurant.]

[For real?]

Someone even tagged Jeremiah directly. The whole group chat exploded. But Jeremiah never replied.

Jeremiah had slept with Hathaway while barely conscious, so it wasn’t strange that he mistook the person who saved him.

Then Hathaway suddenly remembered Avery was in that group chat too, and he’d definitely see what others were discussing.

Sure enough, not long after, Avery called her. Clearly, he already knew the mess. He said, “I heard Jeremiah got into trouble a few days ago, and Jessica jumped into the ocean to save him. Did you know about that?”

Hathaway bit her lower lip lightly and replied, “Yeah.”

“So that’s why you got upset and wanted to cancel the engagement?”

“No. I really don’t love him anymore.”

Avery went quiet for a moment on the other end. Obviously, he still didn’t believe her. Then he chuckled and comforted her. “We both know Jeremiah, right? He’d never fall in love with someone that easily.

“My gorgeous sister has chased him for years, and the guy still didn’t react. He’s practically frigid. No way he’d suddenly fall for Jessica.”

Hathaway tightened her grip on the phone, thinking, ‘Jeremiah definitely isn’t frigid toward Jessica.

‘In my last life, he was hopelessly devoted to her. He did so much for her.’

Not wanting her brother to worry, Hathaway simply answered him calmly and tried to brush it off.

Just as she was about to hang up, Avery suddenly mentioned something else. “You said you wanted to introduce a friend to the company. Was that Jessica?”

Hathaway froze. It took her a while to remember that the friend Avery meant really was Jessica.

Back when Jessica had first returned to the country and couldn’t find a job, Hathaway had volunteered to help her. She’d even talked to Avery about bringing a friend into Whitmore Group.

But in her previous life, before any of that could happen, Jeremiah had already taken an interest in Jessica.

The two women ended up fighting nonstop, and once Jessica found herself a much bigger backer, the whole job thing naturally got dropped.

Now that Hathaway thought about it carefully, she realized that Jessica might’ve had other motives from the very beginning. After all, with an Ivy League degree, it made no sense that Jessica failed to find a job. She just found a better option later on.

“No need. She’s already found a job,” Hathaway said coldly.

After hearing her stay quiet for so long only to say that, Avery immediately guessed the truth. He asked, “It’s Jessica, isn’t it?”

“Yeah.” Hathaway didn’t think it was necessary to hide.

“Well, what a friend,” Avery sighed on the other end and then hung up.

Hathaway sat blankly on the floor for a while and thought, ‘Not bad. In my last life, Avery had a decent impression of Jessica. This time, that should be gone.’

She picked up the newspapers and tried to start reading again, but scenes from her previous life kept rolling through her mind.

One moment, it was Jeremiah’s angry face, and he shouted, “Hathaway, that’s enough.”

Jessica had been set up several times, and every time, Jeremiah believed Hathaway had sent people to do it. He hated her for it.

The next moment, she saw Jeremiah crushing the Whitmore family without mercy. Her father had died from a heart attack. Her brother had died horribly. Even Avery’s wife hadn’t escaped.

Everyone outside had said Hathaway was the one who destroyed her family.

Her breathing grew quick and uneven. She pressed a hand to her aching head and lay down on the floor to rest for a moment.

Then her phone rang again. This time, it was her friend Evelyn.

She said, “Hath, did you hear? Jeremiah is chasing Jessica. “Lucas and the guys said Jeremiah treats Jessica really well. Someone took pictures at an auction.”

Evelyn had her phone on speaker and sent over several photos.

Hathaway casually scanned them. In the photos, Jeremiah was answering a call. The watch on his lean wrist flashed with a cold metallic shine.

Sitting close beside him was Jessica, dressed in an ivory dress that made her look cool, elegant, and untouchable.

The truth was, he’d been on the phone dealing with the people from the yacht while buying a necklace for Jessica at the same time.
