The Billionaire Heir Fell for the Wrong Girl (Hathaway Whitmore) novel Chapter 7

Chapter 7 Sell Her Luxury Bags

Hathaway had arranged to meet Evelyn in a private room on the second floor of the restaurant.

She had asked Evelyn to get her someone to buy her handbags, and the buyer had come to check them out in person. Since it was right around dinner time, and the buyer was Evelyn’s friend, Hathaway decided to treat them to dinner.

Near the end of the meal, Evelyn’s friend went to the restroom.

Evelyn asked, “Why are you suddenly selling your bags? I thought you were just talking.”

Hathaway replied, “I need money.”

“Are you broke or something? What happened? Did your parents cut you off because you broke up with Jeremiah?” That was the only thing Evelyn could think of.

“If you’re short on cash, I can lend you some. You really don’t have to sell your bags. Keep them, even if it’s just to look pretty on the shelf.”

Hathaway smiled. She knew Evelyn truly cared about her. “There’s no use keeping them.”

Evelyn thought, ‘How could handbags have no use? Poor girl. She must be hit too hard.’

“Did you hear the gossip?” Evelyn sighed. “Yeah, it’s true. While you were gone these past six months, Jessica got really close with Lucas, Calvin, and the others. They’re basically friends now.

“Jeremiah really spoils Jessica a lot. He is allergic to flowers, but he still wore a mask and brought her flowers.

“At auctions, he didn’t just bid on jewelry for Jessica. He also bought expensive collectibles for her parents, her grandmother, and her younger brother.”

Hathaway paused for a second, thinking, ‘So he does know how to be romantic. In my last life, after I married him, he had always been stiff, cold, and completely clueless about romance.’

Evelyn was angry for Hathaway’s sake while a trace of envy slipped through her heart. “But Hath, why did you leave for so long? By the time you came back, they were already close. Doesn’t that put you in a terrible spot? If you hadn’t left, all of that might’ve been yours. You wouldn’t have to sell your bags either.”

Hathaway lowered her eyes. In her last life, she hadn’t left. She had fought Jessica until the whole thing turned ugly. She had tried to stop Jeremiah from seeing Jessica and told everyone she saved Jeremiah, but no one had believed her.

Jeremiah never believed her either. He had only thought she was being unreasonable. Now that she had a second chance, she hoped those two would stay tied to each other for good.

Hathaway thought bitterly, ‘Being targeted by that madman would never lead to a good life. Since Jessica likes him, she can have him. I’ve moved on.’

Now, she only wanted to make money. She only needed money. Investing and buying stocks both required cash. The whole game was about how much capital she had.

“It’s fine. I don’t care anymore.” Seeing that Evelyn looked even more upset than she did, Hathaway gave her a faint smile.

But Evelyn still felt sorry for Hathaway. After all, Hathaway had given so much since they were kids. Now, just when she was old enough to get married, another woman had swooped in out of nowhere. It really stung.

Just then, Evelyn’s friend came back. He said eagerly, “Ladies, are you good to go? Let’s go downstairs and check out the goods.”

“Sure.” Hathaway stood up. It was cold outside, so she put on her white wool hat and wrapped a thick scarf around her neck, covering most of her face.

As they went downstairs, Evelyn realized she had forgotten her phone. She told them to go ahead while she went back to get it.

When Hathaway and Evelyn’s friend reached the stairs, they ran into Jeremiah, Jessica, Lucas, and their group, who were heading upstairs for dinner.

The luxury appraiser walking in front clearly recognized the CEO of Blackwood Group.

Even though they had never really crossed paths, people in his line of work tended to be pretty eager to please. The moment he saw a big shot who often appeared in the media, he instinctively stepped aside to let them pass first.

The staircase was narrow, so Hathaway, who was walking behind him, had no choice but to stop too.

Her body was blocked by the appraiser’s tall frame.

A manager was personally leading Jeremiah and Jessica upstairs, so with his view partly blocked, Jeremiah didn’t notice Hathaway.

After their group passed, Hathaway let out a breath.

Lucas, who was walking at the very back, glanced over his shoulder. All he saw was a back that looked a lot like Hathaway’s.

Lucas thought about telling Jeremiah that Hathaway seemed to be here too, but then he figured Jeremiah wouldn’t care anyway. The words reached his mouth, but he swallowed them back.

A while later, Hathaway and the man waited for Evelyn by the entrance.

Evelyn’s friend said, “Did you see the group just now? The guy who went upstairs was the CEO of Blackwood Group. Young, successful, and seriously capable. Some media outlets even said he is gay. Guess not. He’s got a girlfriend.”

Anyone with eyes could tell Jeremiah and Jessica were a couple.

Hathaway nodded. “Good for him.”

She had just finished speaking when she saw Calvin arrive a little later.

Hathaway and Calvin met each other’s eyes. Both of them froze for a second and then nodded to each other.

Calvin smiled and then walked into the restaurant.

Evelyn’s friend was stunned. He knew Calvin was the CEO of Harper Group, who often appeared in the papers. He asked, “That’s the CEO of Harper Group. You know him?”

Hathaway nodded. “Mm-hm.”

“What does your family do?”
