Two days later, Hathaway brought some fruit with her to Blackwood Villa.
Normally, she never bought things like that when she visited. It felt tacky and distant. But now she had nothing to do with Jeremiah anymore. Her role had changed to a guest, so a little courtesy was only proper.
When she arrived at Blackwood Villa, she handed the fruit to a maid. The maid looked a little surprised. After all, the previous Hathaway rarely acted like a guest.
But then again, the maid thought it made sense. Hathaway hadn’t visited for half a year. Maybe she was just trying to make a good impression on the hosts.
Eleanor came down from upstairs, graceful as ever. She smiled and said, “Hath, you’re finally back.”
“Hi, Mrs. Blackwood.” Hathaway greeted her.
Eleanor walked over, took her hand with a pained look, and led her to sit on the sofa. “Sweetie, it’s been a while, and you’ve gotten so thin. Are you getting used to working at your family’s company?”
“Yeah, I’m doing okay,” Hathaway said. “Mrs. Blackwood, actually, I came here today to cancel the engagement.”
Eleanor was surprised upon hearing that.
Even the servants were shocked.
Eleanor knew the reason. She sighed and said, “Hath, you went abroad because you were mad at Jeremiah, didn’t you? His dad and I have already given him a good talking-to.
“Jeremiah only feels grateful to that woman. She saved him once, that’s all. That’s why they’ve been a little closer. Don’t overthink it, okay?”
News about Jeremiah and Jessica had kept reaching the Blackwood family, and Eleanor had been annoyed by it.
The Kingsley family was nobody special, and neither Reginald nor Eleanor thought much of them.
Besides, the Whitmore family and the Blackwood family still had an engagement between them. They owed the Whitmores a proper explanation.
Edmund would never agree to it either.
Hathaway pulled her hand back and said, “That’s not it, Mrs. Blackwood. I don’t like Jeremiah anymore.”
In her last life, from the moment he decided to divorce her, she had stopped loving him.
And later, after she found out all the things Jeremiah had done against the Whitmore family, there was even less love left.
“Hath…” Eleanor was truly surprised. She had never imagined Hathaway would stop loving Jeremiah.
After all, Hathaway had been so addicted to him.
Eleanor had always treated Hathaway as Jeremiah’s future wife.
But Hathaway had suddenly disappeared for more than half a year and let Jeremiah and Jessica grow closer and closer. Thinking about it now, Eleanor realized that Hathaway really no longer cared.
Eleanor stammered, “Hath, you…”
Hathaway placed an old-fashioned red box in front of Eleanor. “Mrs. Blackwood, it’s no longer right for me to keep this. I’m returning it to its owner.”
Eleanor froze. She hadn’t expected things to become this serious.
Hathaway was even returning the Blackwood family’s heirloom ring, the symbol of love and marriage.
The ring had been passed down through generations, and it was only meant for the wife of each Blackwood heir.
Eleanor spoke with hesitation. “Hath, do your parents know about this?”
Hathaway replied firmly, “I’m the one involved, so I can make this decision myself.”
Hathaway stood up and lowered her eyes. “I’ll be leaving now.”
After saying that, she had no plan to stay any longer. She gave a polite bow and took her leave.
This time, Eleanor didn’t stop her.

After leaving the house, Hathaway went to get her car and ran into Jeremiah, whom she hadn’t seen in a long time. Lucas was with him.
When Jeremiah saw Hathaway, his face darkened slightly.
It had been half a year since Jeremiah last saw Hathaway, but even with her standing there, he stayed distant and didn’t say a word.
Lucas, on the other hand, acted as if he had caught her red-handed. “Hathaway, you came here to complain the second you got back, huh?”
Hathaway didn’t answer. She only shot them a glance and then walked away.
Her cold attitude caught Lucas off guard.
By the time she got into her car, Jeremiah had already walked into the villa without looking back, as if he didn’t care about Hathaway at all.
It was as if neither side had seen the other.
