Evelyn asked her, “You don’t make money from live streaming, so why are you suddenly after followers and attention?”
Hathaway smiled and didn’t explain.
In her previous life, Jessica, with her millions of followers, weaponized her massive fanbase to drop a few carefully staged photos, along with a line that was impossible to ignore.
It read: [Hathaway has an inappropriate relationship with a minor. Her character is questionable.]
That single, provocative statement unleashed a tidal wave of outrage. It threw Hathaway and Joe straight into the center of the storm. Overnight, their names were smeared beyond recognition.
If Hathaway had had a shred of influence back then, she wouldn’t have been so easily manipulated.
“From today on, I’m going to build up my own fanbase,” Hathaway said.
Evelyn glanced at her phone, then took it and tapped around, setting up a cute username for her, Whitmore
Princess.
Hathaway didn’t mind the nickname. She smiled and added her own name at the end, “How do I get more followers, anyway?”
Evelyn said, “You could show off your wealth, or post about your daily life. Either way, you’ll attract followers. Or Jeremiah has a ton of clout.
“Last time, I was snapping some photos at a party and accidentally caught him sitting not far behind me.
“After I posted it, tons of people started asking if I knew him, and my followers jumped by tens of thousands. I got worried Jeremiah would notice, so I took it down.”
Hathaway caught her drift. “Looks like I’ll stick to posting about my daily life.”
With that, she snapped a photo of her lunch.
Warm sunlight streamed in through the window, making the food look extra appetizing, like something you’d see in a feel–good foodie post.
She typed out a caption: [A beautiful day, lunch time!] and posted it with the photo.
Evelyn immediately followed her and hit the like button.
Just then, Avery called. Hathaway picked up. “Avery?”
Avery’s voice came through the phone. “Ethan and his dad stopped by the office. The contract’s all signed.

“His dad was beyond grateful, and Ethan’s already back at his factory, pulling overtime to get the orders out. After this, I think he’s learned his lesson and will take things more seriously. He’s on his own from now on.”
“Got it, thanks, Avery,” Hathaway replied, feeling a little lighter inside.
She hung up and casually opened her newly registered social media account. After a quick refresh, she paused. Her follower count had jumped by dozens in a few minutes.
She glanced at the profile pictures and saw a bunch of familiar faces, chilling in her follower list.
Hathaway froze.
“Who did you share my account with? My followers shot up out of nowhere,” she asked.
Evelyn waved her phone. “I promoted your account in a group chat.”
Hathaway noticed Lucas had followed her. Her expression darkened, and she hit block on him again.
Evelyn tried to stop her. “Jeremiah and Lucas are pretty well–known. Their fans might track you down and follow you, too. Isn’t it a shame to block them like this?”
“Nope,” Hathaway said.

The next day, Hathaway spent the whole day working at the office.
As she was about to clock out, Avery called. “There’s this new restaurant everyone’s raving about. I’m getting off work early and heading there with Celeste to grab a spot in line. Head over as soon as you finish up.”
“Okay,” Hathaway replied cheerfully.
The restaurant Avery mentioned had a rooftop with a circular floor–to–ceiling glass wall, offering a killer view of the city at night.
The food was amazing, and lately it’s the hottest spot in town. Everyone had been checking in and posting about it online.
After work, Hathaway drove to the mall’s underground parking lot. She pulled down the visor, checked herself in the mirror, and reapplied her nude lipstick before getting out of the car.
She took the scenic elevator straight to the top floor. As she walked over to the window seat Celeste had reserved, she suddenly stopped in her tracks.
‘Why are Eleanor and Jessica here?‘ Hathaway wondered.
Eleanor spotted Hathaway, too. She was only here because her son said Jessica had signed a contract for a deal worth hundreds of millions of dollars and was treating everyone to dinner tonight.
‘But what’s Hathaway doing here?‘ she wondered.

“Hathaway, how come you’re here? Jessica helped Blackwood Group win a major bid, and Jeremiah is in a great mood and decided to treat us all to dinner here,” Eleanor said.
Hathaway gave a polite smile.
In her previous life, Jeremiah always made it look like Jessica was the one responsible for everything, so his family would accept her more quickly.
Hathaway felt more convinced now that Jeremiah probably knew she was the one who saved him, but he preferred the story where Jessica was the hero.
“Hathaway?” Eleanor frowned, clearly annoyed.
Seeing Hathaway standing there, Eleanor shot her a look, thinking, ‘Is she here to stir things up?‘
She said, “Do you know what you’re doing? Didn’t you say you were over my son? If you don’t like Jeremiah anymore, then why are you here?
“Hathaway, women really shouldn’t be so fickle or keep changing their minds.”
As Hathaway was about to clear up the misunderstanding, her phone rang. It was Avery.
“Where are you? Why aren’t you here yet?” Avery asked.
“I’m at the spot you told me, but I don’t see you or Celeste,” Hathaway said, shooting Eleanor a calm look.
It hit Avery. “Oh, that’s on me. I gave Jeremiah the table I booked earlier. We’re at the second table on the east side now.”
“Got it, I’m on my way,” Hathaway replied. She turned to leave, but nearly collided with Jeremiah, who had finished his call. He instinctively reached out to steady her.
