Hathaway went through all the info she’d dug up with Avery, and he was pretty enthusiastic about it. The two of them spent ages talking it over.

Conrad dropped by at one point, saw his siblings deep in discussion, gave Hathaway a warm smile, messed up her hair a little, and walked out.

That evening, Lorenzo called and asked her out to the movies.

Ever since the birthday cake, he’s been hitting me up way more often,‘ Hathaway thought. ‘He never used to ask me out between Monday and Thursday.‘

Hathaway thought it over for a bit, then decided to go.

She had Aurelia get Evelyn’s car washed and sent over to the Montgomery family, then headed home to grab her own car and drive to college.

That night, they went to a ball game and then grabbed dinner together.

But at the restaurant, they bumped into Jeremiah and Jessica again.

Lorenzo nodded at his brother, then pulled Hathaway along to their reserved table.

Once they sat down, Lorenzo said, “Jeremiah’s been checking out houses lately. Looks like he’s thinking about getting married.”

Hathaway was taken aback for a moment, then nodded.

‘Love or not, it’s written all over his face, she thought.

In her previous life, after they got married, she always lived with her in–laws and Jeremiah’s little brother.

Jeremiah never thought about buying them a place of their own. But now that he was about to marry his true love, a new house was a must.

But Hathaway didn’t waste time thinking about how unfair it was. She sat down with Lorenzo and focused on the menu. Soon enough, Jeremiah and Jessica came over and took the seats across from them.

Hathaway and Lorenzo exchanged a glance, then quietly put their menus down.

Lorenzo asked, “Jeremiah?”

Jeremiah replied, “It’s way more fun if we all eat together.”

Now, not only were Lorenzo and Hathaway puzzled, but Jessica also turned to look at Jeremiah.

But his little brother was here. Jeremiah had always looked out for Lorenzo since they were kids. No way he’d act like he didn’t know him and sit at a different table.

Jessica didn’t think much of it and said, “Hathaway, I heard you came to my restaurant a few days ago with Lucas. Why didn’t you tell me you were coming? I could’ve hooked you up with a discount.”

Hathaway didn’t answer Jessica. Instead, she turned to Lorenzo and said, “I needed to talk to him about something.”

Lorenzo shot her a knowing grin.

Hathaway didn’t say anything more, quietly picked up her water, and took a sip.

Jeremiah watched as Hathaway took a drink, her lips parting around the glass.

His eyes darkened a little.

He had no clue about any of this.

After all, Lucas and Hathaway had been clashing lately; no one would’ve expected them to meet up outside.

Seeing Hathaway stay silent, Jessica knew she’d hit her mark.

She wasn’t really talking to Lorenzo; she wanted Jeremiah to see Hathaway hanging out with Lorenzo one minute and Lucas the next, so he could finally see her true colors.

And she wanted to make Jeremiah know that he had definitely made the right call choosing her.

Jeremiah turned to Hathaway and asked, “So, what have you been working on lately? I heard Whitmore Group is knee–deep in developing some new BMS battery management system.”

Hathaway paused, shot Jeremiah a quick look, then shifted her gaze away. “Honestly, Avery takes care of everything at Whitmore Group. I barely know anything about all that tech stuff.”

Jessica flashed a subtle smile. “Jeremiah, how would Hathaway know about that? The fact that she’s got a job at Whitmore Group is pretty impressive, if you ask me.”

It was a classic backhanded compliment, but Hathaway didn’t bother responding.

Just then, the food arrived. Lorenzo and Hathaway hadn’t ordered yet, so it had to be Jeremiah and Jessica’s food.

The portions were big enough for all four of them.

The restaurant manager came over to Jeremiah, all smiles. “Mr. Blackwood, everything’s been set up as you asked. Please, enjoy your meal.”

He spoke with a mix of flattery and careful respect.

The manager clearly recognized Jeremiah, barely looked at Lorenzo, and before leaving, gave the rest of them a polite smile and a quick bow as he walked away.

Jessica watched everything unfold, a fleeting trace of superiority flickering in her eyes.

“I’m going to hit the restroom,” Jessica said, getting up to touch up her makeup.

Not long after she left, two college girls who’d walked in stopped dead in their tracks when they passed their table. The whole group was so good–looking, it was unreal.

Jeremiah especially stood out with his deep–set eyes, sharp nose, and that cold, aristocratic vibe. The girls had never seen a guy this gorgeous before; they were totally starstruck and desperately wanted his number.

But Jeremiah had an arrogant aura, like he was way out of their league. The girls couldn’t work up the nerve to go over and ask.

“Hey, is the guy sitting across from you single?” one of the girls asked.

They were really hoping to get Jeremiah’s social media, but since Hathaway seemed more approachable and easygoing, they decided to ask her instead.

“He’s about to get married,” Hathaway replied.

The girls apologized quietly, looking disappointed, and walked away.

Jeremiah said in a deadpan voice, “Wait, I’m getting married? That’s news to me.”

Hathaway blinked in surprise, and Lorenzo quickly jumped in, “I told Hathaway you picked up a huge mansion. With a place that big, you’re not planning to live there solo, right? Jeremiah, don’t tell me you’re not thinking about marriage.”

Jeremiah replied, “You do realize it’ll take more than a year to get it renovated, right?”

‘So yeah, that pretty much means he’s got marriage on his mind,’ she thought. ‘He didn’t deny it.

The next morning, as Hathaway flipped through the morning paper, she instantly spotted Jessica’s photo splashed across the front page.

Jessica was rocking a white Dior suit, and her gentle smile was picture–perfect as always.

Conrad spread some strawberry jam on a slice of bread and handed it to Hathaway. “I heard Jessica’s pretty

“She finished a big project at Blackwood Group, and Jeremiah gave her a chunk of money. She donated the whole amount to a charity for homeless kids.”

Hathaway set the paper down, took a bite of her toast, and nodded.
