The party wasn’t over yet, and Hathaway was ready to leave, but Avery had already taken off with his wife in one of the cars, leaving one behind.

So she had to wait for her parents to wrap things up before they could all head out together.

Hathaway blinked in surprise and couldn’t help but ask, “Who was it?”

Olivia chuckled, “Honestly, we have no idea. He’s kept it really hush-hush.

“He won’t talk about it at all. No matter who asks, he shuts down. We, as his parents, have no clue who the girl was.

“If we knew who she was, it’d be so much easier. We could find someone similar for him to marry and start a life with. As long as she has a clean background, that’s all we’d want.”

“As long as the girl has a good heart and is a decent person, that’s all that matters. Calvin’s such a good kid. He deserves someone who’ll truly care about him.”

All the ladies chimed in enthusiastically, eager to help.

“Absolutely! We’ll all keep an eye out. Say the word, and the moment we spot someone suitable, you’ll be the first to know!”

The driver was at the wheel, Conrad was resting his eyes in the passenger seat, and Sylvia was quietly gazing out at the city lights.

Hathaway took the chance to pull out her phone and text Evelyn: [Do you know if Calvin ever liked anyone before?]

Sylvia glanced over, too, and Hathaway quickly smoothed out her frown and forced a smile. “It’s nothing, Dad. I’m heading to Monarcia tomorrow.

“There’s a young guy who passed his thesis defense and is about to graduate. I’m going over to congratulate him. He might be joining us soon.”

She’d already tracked down three out of Blackwood Tech’s top four core programmers.

Killian and Ian were already working at Whitmore Group, and there was another guy, a PhD student in Monarcia, whom she’d purposely staged a ‘chance’ encounter with back in college town to make the connection.

They’d kept in touch by email, and he’d already agreed to come back and join Whitmore Group right after graduation.

She didn’t really know much about his family, but from his style and the way he talked, it was clear he came from money, a privileged background for sure.

Conrad looked at his daughter with obvious pride after hearing what she said. “You’ve been handling all the staff stuff lately, and I’ve been watching.

“You’ve got a knack for spotting talent, you pay attention to the details, and you know how to reel people in before they join us. That’s what it takes to make it big. I’m proud you’re my daughter.”

Sylvia sat quietly, listening to their conversation, a gentle smile spreading across her face. She reached out and took Hathaway’s hand, her voice soft with concern. “Make sure you stay safe on the road”

Hathaway put Calvin out of her mind and headed to the airport the next day.

But she hadn’t expected her trip to Monarcia to end up taking way longer than she thought.

Zachary Ashford spent the whole week with her, taking her everywhere and showing her all the local spots.

But his advisor wouldn’t budge. He made Zachary stay on as a teaching assistant, so his graduation and plans to head home had to be postponed for the time being.

Zachary sounded a little helpless, worried that Hathaway, his friend both online and in real life, might be disappointed. “Hang in there for me. Once I finish up the loose ends here, I’ll come back home as soon as I can.”

After a week together, Hathaway realized Zachary was still the same as ever. If he said he’d do something, he always kept his word.
