The Billionaire Heir Fell for the Wrong Girl (Hathaway Whitmore) novel Chapter 9

The next day was Saturday. Conrad simply stayed home all morning. He worked in the study for a while, then sat on the sofa reading the newspaper. It was obvious he was waiting there to make sure Hathaway went to Blackwood Villa with them. i

Seeing that she couldn’t escape the dinner, Hathaway hid in her room and called Jeremiah’s younger brother, Lorenzo.

If the two families had to be joined by marriage, then she could choose Lorenzo, who was still in college. After all, he was also a Blackwood son.

Once Hathaway explained why she was calling, she added, her tone a little embarrassed, “This wouldn’t just help me. It’d help your brother too. Lorenzo, could you help us out?”

Lorenzo stayed silent on the other end for a long while. Then he asked, “By the way, how did you get this/number?” Hathaway’s heart skipped a beat.

In her last life, Lorenzo had been her brother-in-law. Sometimes Eleanor would ask her to pick him up from college or bring him fresh clothes, so of course she had remembered his number clearly.

But right now, Lorenzo had gone to high school out of province. After he came back to Bayridge for college, he had changed his phone. During all that time, the two of them had never exchanged phone numbers.

Hathaway explained, “I… I asked someone for it.”

She didn’t say who that someone was.

“Can you help?” she asked again.

Lorenzo said, “If it can help my brother and you, of course I will.”

Hathaway let out a breath of relief, thinking, ‘Lorenzo has always been easy to deal with. He is so much better than Jeremiah.’

Lorenzo asked, “Does Jeremy know, though?”

Hathaway said, “He definitely won’t care. He can’t wait to get rid of me.”

Lorenzo went quiet for a few seconds, as if he thought she was putting herself down too much. Then he said, “OK, glad to help you.”

“Are you home today?”

“Yeah.”

After hanging up, Hathaway felt pretty happy. Her ridiculous suggestion had actually been accepted.

She couldn’t help thinking, ‘Again, Lorenzo is far kinder and gentler than Jeremiah.’

Feeling much lighter, she went downstairs. Conrad was still sitting on the living room sofa. She walked up to him and said, ” Dad, aren’t we having lunch plan with the Blackwoods today? Let’s go.”

When Conrad heard Hathaway’s words, his tone softened. “Oh, finally changed your mind? That’s more like it. Young

couples break up and make up all the time. Don’t ruin your own future just because you’re angry.

“Other than his bad temper, Jeremiah doesn’t have any huge problems. Don’t push the man you like into another woman’s arms. You’ll be the one regretting it.”

As Conrad spoke, he pulled out his phone and called the Blackwoods.

After hanging up, he told Sylvia to change clothes so they could join the Blackwoods for lunch.

Conrad said Reginald had answered the phone. He happened to be home today too.

Conrad said, “Good timing. Reginald is back. He also thinks we shouldn’t keep putting off their marriage.”

Sylvia was very close to Eleanor, and Conrad got along well with Reginald.

In the past, the two families had often gathered together.

Today, Avery had gone to a factory, so Conrad and Sylvia brought Hathaway with them to Blackwood Villa.

Hathaway used to really like Eleanor and Reginald. She had once naively believed that marrying into the Blackwood family would be the best choice for her.

But later, they had accepted and come to like Jessica too.

As soon as the Whitmores arrived at Blackwood Villa, Reginald came out to welcome them.

At the same time, Eleanor called Jeremiah several times, urging him to come home.

No one knew what Eleanor said in the end, but she finally managed to get Jeremiah back.

Jeremiah had just finished a meeting and was dressed formally. With his usual unsmiling face and those sharp eyes, he looked unapproachable.

Hathaway’s parents were already used to his distant nature. As long as he came back, that was enough.

As long as Hathaway liked him, what they thought about Jeremiah didn’t really matter.

“Jeremiah, sit next to Hathaway,” Eleanor said.

Jeremiah pulled out the chair and sat down. He didn’t even glance at Hathaway.

Reginald and Eleanor had low expectations and a high tolerance for Jeremiah. As long as he came back and sat there, they already felt satisfied.

Hathaway tried to remember what had happened around this time in her last life.

Then she realized that back then, she hadn’t returned the ring. And this dinner meant to patch things up had never happened either.

“Hath, what would you like to drink?” Lorenzo’s voice cut into her thoughts.

Hathaway saw that he was holding a bottle of fresh orange juice, so she said, “Orange juice is fine. Thanks.”

Lorenzo came over and poured her some.

Their eyes met, and the two of them shared a knowing smile.
