The Billionaire Heir Fell for the Wrong Girl (Hathaway Whitmore) novel Chapter 95

Chapter 95

Chapter 95

Hathaway had no idea where Lucas was taking her.

Just then, her stomach growled at the worst possible moment.

Hathaway froze instantly.

It was dinner time, and she’d normally be having dinner at home by now.

Lucas snickered, “Hungry?”

He told the driver, “Find a nearby restaurant and pull over.”

Turning to Hathaway, he said, “Let’s grab some food first. If I let you starve and something happens, people will think I’m picking on you.”

Hathaway really didn’t want to go, but she was worried this lunatic Lucas might randomly retaliate against Ethan’s factory again, so she had no choice but to send a quick message to her family, letting them know she was heading out.

At the restaurant, Lucas said, “Edmund has already given his approval to Jessica.”

“From now on, stop clashing with Jessica.”

“The renovation team has already started work on his billion-dollar mansion.”

Looks like their big day is around the corner.

Lucas watched Hathaway closely after every sentence, but she kept chewing quietly, her cheeks full, eyes calmly fixed on her plate, not giving him any reaction at all.

Lucas gave a satisfied nod. “Eat up. You’ve gotten skinnier lately.”

That comment stirred up some old memories. Hathaway shot him a quick look, then lowered her eyes, looking a bit down.

Lucas didn’t notice. He was still in high spirits, looking pretty pleased with himself. “Once Jeremiah and Jessica get married, you won’t have to keep pretending with Lorenzo anymore.”

Hathaway felt like she was chewing cardboard. After swallowing, she said, “Lorenzo and I are already in love. We’re going to get married,”

Lucas thought, ‘Hathaway really knows how to say exactly what I don’t want to hear.

He set down his wine glass, gripping it tightly, and sneered, “Hathaway, you move on so fast. Maybe you should try a third one next.”

Hathaway was about to brush him off when someone called out, “Lucas!”

Elaine Thorne and her classmates happened to be at the restaurant too. Spotting Lucas and Hathaway together, she said with a hint of jealousy, “Lucas, what are you doing here?”

Lucas gave a slight nod.

“Lucas, can we catch a ride with you later? It’s peak holiday season, and we can’t get a cab,” Elaine asked.

That was when Hathaway realized today was one of those little holidays. Every year on this day, her dad would give her mom lots of flowers.

Her mom would always laugh and tease him for buying so many, but then she’d turn around and cherish every single one.

“I’m done eating. Why don’t you give them a ride home?” Hathaway said.

Hathaway stood up right away, not giving Lucas a chance to respond, and walked out to head home on her own.

She stopped to buy some fresh flowers and hurried home, but Mary told her that Sylvia was already asleep.

On the ride back, Elaine turned to Lucas and asked, “Lucas, do you think my friends are cute?”

Elaine was secretly hoping Lucas would say she was prettier than them.

Lucas remembered how their faces were covered in so much makeup, each one paler than the next. “Honestly, I thought they looked like NPCs in a haunted house.”

Elaine was taken aback by his comment, then quickly said, “They’re not really my friends anyway.”

If these friends were making her look bad, she figured she might as well swap them out for better ones.

The driver kept quiet in the front seat, while Lucas leaned back and closed his eyes to rest.

Elaine gritted her teeth.

Turns out Jessica was right-guys who really stand out usually go for girls with a fresh face, not ones caked in makeup.

Jessica was always like that; unless it was some big event, she only wore a little makeup, and she always looked classy and pretty.

Elaine suddenly felt like all the effort she put into her makeup was too much and way too obvious.

Her grandma always said she should take notes from Jessica, and now she realized her grandma was spot on.

Maybe it was because she’d had dinner with Lucas, but Hathaway ended up having another nightmare where Lucas tormented her.

In the dream, Lucas said she was too skinny and needed to gain some weight/ Hathaway woke up in the middle of the night, her tears falling uncontrollably.

Her stomach was killing her. She curled up under the covers, biting her lip so hard she almost drew blood.

The room was pitch black and dead silent. Hathaway turned on the light and got out of bed, her bare feet touching the icy floor.

Her father’s departure had hit her like a ton of bricks.

In the dead of night, she missed him more-the man who used to shield her from every storm and keep the whole family safe under his wing.

The guilt and regret in the darkness were suffocating her.

Just then-

She suddenly caught the faint rustle of fabric brushing past her door.

Hathaway froze.

Someone else was still awake in the house at this hour.

Chapter 95

Hathaway ran barefoot to the door, her hands trembling as she pulled it open.

Standing outside was Sylvia, her face as pale as a sheet.

“Mom?” Hathaway called out.

Sylvia’s eyes were empty, and suddenly, she collapsed, her body rigid as she fell to the floor.

“Mom!” Hathaway cried out, reaching out to catch her mother’s limp body, her knees hitting the floor under the weight

An unknown fear seized her in that instant.

Hathaway screamed, not caring about her tears, yelling with all her might.

“Avery! Avery! Someone, help!”

“Joe! Mary!”

Her screams shattered the silence of the whole house.

Footsteps thundered down the stairs. Avery came rushing down, his clothes all rumpled, and the servants were jolted awake flipping on lights one after another.

In the chaos, Avery carried Sylvia all the way out the door, while Celeste ran back for a shawl and wrapped it around her unconscious body.

Hathaway, chilled to the bone, followed her brother and sister-in-law outside and got into the car, and they drove her mother to the hospital in the dead of night.

At the hospital, the doctor gave Sylvia a quick checkup and told the family, “She hasn’t been sleeping well lately, and her blood sugar dropped, so she fainted.”

Avery finally let out a sigh of relief.

He glanced at Hathaway, and all the tension she’d been holding onto finally let go. She clung to Celeste, crying softly, while Celeste gently patted her back to comfort her.

Sylvia was hooked up to an IV drip, and soon fell into a deep, restless sleep.
