Chapter 94

Ever since Conrad passed away, Sylvia had been struggling emotionally.

Hathaway was so busy she barely had time for herself, but thankfully, Sebastian was always around, keeping Sylvia company and trying to lift her spirits.

A week later, Sylvia was feeling a little better. While Hathaway was at work, Sebastian called her.

Hathaway knew Sebastian had been with them for a long time, sticking by their side through all the tough days. Now that things at home were finally calming down, it was about time for him to head back.

Sebastian was already at the airport, but before leaving, he was still worried about his niece.

“Hathaway, take care of your mom, and don’t try to tough it out alone. If anything happens, remember to call your uncle alright?” Sebastian reminded her gently.

Hathaway kept saying, “Okay, okay, I got it.”

“Before I go, I want to give you a word of advice about Jessica” Sebastian said.

‘Hathaway looked up, surprised.’

The client across from her was waiting for her to finish the call, so Hathaway lowered her voice and said, “Uncle, go ahead.”

The background noise on the other end was pretty loud, with the airport announcements faintly audible, but Hathaway still managed to catch the gist of what Sebastian was saying.

She replied, “Got it, Uncle. I’ll keep that in mind.”

“Safe travels,” she added.

After hanging up, Hathaway turned to Mr. Liu and said apologetically, “Mr. Liu, we need a 50% deposit up front, and you can pay the rest when you pick up the goods. Is that okay with you?”

Mr. Liu froze for a second, then his face clouded over, disbelief written all over it.

“Ms. Whitmore, are you serious right now?” he demanded.

Hathaway shook her head, “I’m not joking.”

“A 50% deposit? That’s way too much, Ms. Whitmore. I haven’t seen the goods yet, and you expect me to pay half up front? Why shouldn’t I take my business to Kingsley Group instead?” Mr. Liu grumbled.

“From what I know, Kingsley Group also asks for a 50% deposit,” Hathaway replied calmly.

Mr. Liu looked awkward for a moment, then quickly said, “Fine, I’ll talk to Mr. Whitmore. If this doesn’t work out, I’ll go to Kingsley Group.”

Shaking his head, Mr. Liu walked out. Hathaway didn’t bother to stop him, told Aurelia to see him out.

Not long after, Avery came over to see her.

“You know our regular clients have always paid a 10% deposit, right?” Avery said.

‘From now on, it’s 50% deposit. If they don’t agree, we’d rather lose their business than compromise,’ Hathaway replied.

“Don’t worry about these clients. We’ve been working with them for over ten years,” Avery reassured her.

Chapter 94

If she didn’t have memories from her previous life, Hathaway might have actually believed Avery.

How did Jeremiah manage to bring down Whitmore Group? One of the main reasons was making their loyal clients switch sides.

In this life, she hadn’t gone up against Jessica, so Jeremiah hadn’t made a move against Whitmore Group yet. But what if she and Jessica ended up at odds?

“Avery, can you listen to me for once? Kingsley Group does the same thing-they ask for a 50% deposit, and nobody dates to mess with them. These clients only act up because they think Whitmore Group is easy to push around,” Hathaway said.

“Hathaway, these are our regular clients. Do you get how crucial it is to keep them on our side?” Avery said

“I’m not trying to upset our regulars. I want to bump the deposit up to 50%” Hathaway replied.

“Dad passed away. I don’t want to fight with you,” Avery cut her off, repeating himself. “We’ve been working with these clients for years. They’ve always been reliable for Whitmore Group.”

Avery was too gentle. He never expects trouble, never sees a threat coming.

‘Hathaway couldn’t shake off a bad feeling. If things kept going this way, wasn’t it like last time?’

When Hathaway got home, she chatted with Sylvia for a bit, then went outside and sat on the stone bench in the yard.

Joe came over and stood next to her, his voice trembling as he apologized, head bowed.

That day, Hathaway had told him to go with Conrad to the hospital, but when Conrad suddenly had something else to deal with, Joe didn’t dare follow. Now his eyes were red, and he looked like he was about to cry from regret.

“I’m sorry, Hathaway I messed up. If I’d gone with Mr. Whitmore to the hospital, maybe things would’ve turned out differently” Joe said, voice breaking.

Hathaway looked up at him gently. “It’s not your fault.”

“I went to the hospital with him later, and nothing seemed off,” Hathaway said,

It was really her own carelessness that led to her father’s death. She’d been buried in work, and when Ethan went bankrupt- just like in her previous life-that should’ve been a red flag. But though she had a bad feeling, she still ignored it without thinking.

Maybe it’s human nature to want to believe things will turn out for the best.

As she thought of Ethan, it suddenly hit Hathaway that he was the one who’d taken her to the hospital the day her father had his accident. “Don’t cry. Let me make a call” she said.

When the call went through, Hathaway said softly, “I remembered-it was you.”

“The day my dad had his accident you were the one who took me to the hospital. I never got the chance to thank you,” she said, her voice gentle.

There was a moment of silence, but before Ethan could reply, the line exploded with the sound of glass breaking, furniture crashing, and furious shouting-chaos spilling right through the phone.

‘Hathaway felt her stomach drop.’

She immediately recognized the commotion-it had to be Ethan’s factory. “Ethan, what’s happening over there? Are you okay?” she asked, worry creeping into her voice.

Chapter 94

“Lucas has been causing trouble every other day lately,” Ethan said, frustration clear in his voice.

Hathaway didn’t say another word. She grabbed her car keys and rushed out the door.

When she arrived at Ethan’s factory, the place was a disaster-a bunch of thugs were wrecking the place with baseball bats. Hathaway stormed forward and barked, “Stop! What the hell do you think you’re doing?”

The troublemakers froze and turned to look at her.

She ignored them completely, dialing Lucas. As soon as he picked up, her tone was cold as ice. “Are you finished with your goons trashing the place?”

Lucas’s low, menacing laugh rumbled through the phone.

“Troublemaking? I’m helping you get rid of the garbage you shouldn’t be hanging around with,” he sneered.

Hathaway gripped her phone tightly.

Lucas’s voice was icy and arrogant. “Hathaway, don’t make me regret giving you a chance.”

“Ethan? He’s nothing. You really think he’s worth protecting?” he sneered.
