Melissa wanted to stay by her father’s side. After all, Lawrence had just woken up. He didn’t say a word—he barely even moved. The doctor said it was normal and that it would take time for Lawrence to regain his voice.
So, Jasmine let her daughter take care of him while she went home.
It had been a long and exhausting day. For now, Jasmine just wanted to take a short rest. However, even when she returned to the Young residence, rest evaded her like a plague. Despite the silence, peace was nowhere in sight.
All she could see were stickers plastered over every inch of the house, reminding her that none of this was theirs anymore. Everything would be sold to pay off Lawrence’s debts and the investors.
Jasmine sat in the living area near the entryway in silence. The light was dimming as the sun began to set, yet she showed no sign of moving. She hadn’t even showered, though hours had passed since she arrived home.
After what felt like forever, the entrance slowly creaked open. The lights from outside spilled in, casting a shadow in the middle of the doorway.
Slowly, Jasmine lifted her gaze and saw Mike walking in.
He paused, his eyes locking onto her exhausted face. A shallow breath escaped him as he swallowed down the tension forming in his throat.
"Hey," he greeted with a forced smile. "Sorry it took me some time. I had to spend all night and day just to find that motherfucker."
He stopped several steps from where she sat. "But I found him. Good thing."
Jasmine just studied his face, too tired to mirror his energy. "Did he tell you anything?"
"Yes!" he said, taking a seat on the long couch. "I asked him about the test, and fortunately, he still remembered."
"What did he say?"
"He said..." Mike trailed off, forcing a lighter tone to support his lie. "What else would he say? He did what he was told to do and altered the results."
Hearing that almost made Jasmine laugh in ridicule. This was exactly what Doctor Tyler had insinuated, and as much as she hated it, she had to admit the damn doctor was right.
Jasmine’s hand gripped the armrest, her eyes fixed on him. "Really?"
"Jasmine, I told you!" he snapped. "What that doctor said is nonsense! How could you believe him? He loved that bitch Loren and still hasn’t moved on!"
"The only use he ever had for us was his admiration for Loren," Mike continued, referring to how they had exploited Doctor Tyler’s feelings toward her to make it look like the two were having an affair.
By using the doctor’s affection, they made Lawrence believe the child Loren was carrying wasn’t his, but Tyler’s.
Mike leaned forward, resting his arms on his legs, eyes fixed on Jasmine.
"Jasmine, don’t worry about what that doctor said," he pressed on. "Seriously. How could we believe Loren swapped our children, right? That dumb bitch wouldn’t even think about something like that."
But all he got in return was silence.
Jasmine just stared at him quietly, unsure whether to laugh or cry. It wasn’t surprising. Mike had always been good at lying. Deception came to him as easily as breathing.
Without a word, she reached for the papers beside her and tossed them onto the table.
SLAP!
And yet, deep down, she almost wished Atlas hadn’t stepped in. Maybe then she could have understood Mike’s reasoning. She’d be more glad playing the fool.

Meanwhile...
Lola chuckled, watching the twins play in the backyard with Haji and Silo. She sat on the patio, her hand cupping her cheek, eyes squinting with a smile cemented on her face. She had just arrived home, and this was the sight that greeted her.
Who wouldn’t appreciate that?
She was, however, a bit surprised to see Haji and Silo there. Chacha was riding on Haji’s back while Second clung to Silo, who already looked like he was about to collapse. Lola’s soft laughter filled the air until her phone vibrated.

On my way home. Penny and Slater’s with me.]
Her lips curved into a small smile as she debated whether to use her extra time to prepare dinner for them. Just a meal to show her appreciation. But before she could decide, another notification appeared at the top of her screen.
Her brows furrowed as she tapped the message.
