"Izu!"

Pika’s voice snapped Izu out of his focus.

It had been a while since Pika began working on establishing their signal. Izu barely understood the details, but what he knew was that it could potentially put them in danger. Hence, he had to keep his eyes and ears open.

When Izu met Pika’s eyes, the latter drew a deep breath and then huffed sharply.

"I already finished the preparation," Pika said, his entire body somehow calm. "Once I press this key, our location will be exposed. I don’t know how fast Ravah’s reinforcements would act, but I would need around five minutes to complete everything."

"Five minutes?" Izu repeated. "Can you do three?"

Pika’s face almost twisted at the man’s request.

"No." He shook his head, glancing at the screen before him. "Izu, this entire thing would take more than an hour of work to complete, but I have to make it in five minutes."

Meaning, Pika was putting everything he had into the next five minutes.

Hearing that, the lines on Izu’s face resurfaced. "But you can do it in five minutes, right?"

"I don’t have a choice," Pika huffed. "I mean, I have to... right, Izu?"

"..." Izu nodded at him, seeing Pika in a different light.

Since the planning stage, Izu couldn’t help but notice Pika—not just because the latter was the smallest, but because Haji practically forced the guy to stay. It made him wonder whether that was because Haji found some entertainment in him, or because there was something Haji or Allen had seen in the guy.

Allen and Haji were the ones who chose everyone for this mission, after all. Well, Chuck was the exception.

Now, Izu was starting to understand the reason.

"Start," he said quietly, turning his head as he continued watching outside. "Whenever you’re ready, Pika."

Pika glanced at Izu, catching the glint in the man’s eyes. Despite Izu being the captain of the weakest team in the Order, he felt reassured. Shaking his head, he faced the laptop with clear determination.

Pika stretched his neck from one side to the other, breathing in and out heavily, shunning everything in his head that had nothing to do with the task at hand. Once he finished stretching his fingers and cracking his knuckles, he sat and carefully positioned his hands on the keys.

He closed his eyes briefly, and when he reopened them, his fingers began working rapidly across the keyboard.

As soon as the sound of typing echoed through the silent night, Izu shot Pika a glance. He rocked his head once and refocused on the outside.

Five minutes later, Pika stopped—right on the dot.

Five minutes.

The moment he stopped, the sound died with it.

On his side, Izu had already approached him.

"You’re done?" Izu asked hurriedly, watching Pika slowly lift his head. Seeing his reaction, his brows knitted. "What?"

Pika opened and closed his mouth, but no words came out. Hence, Izu let his rifle hang across his body, knelt before him, and shook Pika by the shoulder.

"What?!" Izu demanded through gritted teeth. "What’s wrong? Did it fail?"

"Uh..." Pika turned his attention back to the signal. "No."

"It didn’t?"

Still sounding confused, he answered, "No, it didn’t."

"Then what is it? Why are you acting like something terribly wrong happened?"

"Well..." Pika cleared his throat, shaking his head as if to process it. "It’s because I actually pulled it off...?"

This time, it was Izu who was rendered speechless.
