The Billionaire Twins Need A New Mommy! novel Chapter 576

Chapter 576: Loyalty Belongs To...

In the square, every resident crammed into the small space shifted their eyes between Lola, the other two disguised locals, and the mercenaries surrounding them.

"Mama," a boy quietly tugged at his mother’s sleeve. "Is that your clothes—"

His question died when his mother suddenly covered his mouth with her palm. She swallowed hard and drew a careful breath, her neck going taut as she forced herself to stay silent. She owned only a few sets of clothes. Buying anything new was impossible with their monthly contributions being so high.

So she knew.

The clothes Lola was wearing were hers.

But she kept that knowledge to herself.

The people of Gigante might have been resilient, might have endured the insane increases in their contributions without complaint—but they were also fiercely loyal. Just not to the governor.

Their loyalty belonged to the old lady of the brothel.

Old Lady Himari—the former lady of the region, and the only one who had ever truly cared for the people of this land.

It was the same with the men. They recognized the clothes worn by the two strangers as belonging to residents of Gigante. They said nothing, their gazes flickering between the new captives and the mercenaries.

The boss—the one currently in charge—licked his lips. His eyes glinted as he openly studied Lola from head to toe. Anyone could tell he’d already stripped her naked with his gaze alone.

Lola, on the other hand, stared back at him blankly.

If my husband sees the way he’s looking at me... she thought calmly. He’s going to scoop out those eyes with a spoon and feed them to him.

She had never actually seen her husband do something like that, but she wouldn’t be surprised. Atlas simply looked capable. And if not Atlas himself, Baby would probably take care of it.

What Lola didn’t know was that she was absolutely right.

Atlas wouldn’t need anyone’s help if he saw a man gawking at his wife like this.

"Such a pretty face," the man in charge said, finally pulling his hand away from her. "Do you want to save everyone, young lady?"

"...."

Lola pressed her lips into a thin line and glanced around the square. She saw it all—the fear, the anger, the desperation, the hollow acceptance.

A shallow breath escaped her before she took another, deeper one.

Good thing I did that film with Director Sarian before joining the Secret Society, she thought dryly. Turns out, it taught me something useful.

When Lola lifted her head again, her expression shattered.

Her chin trembled. Her eyes glassed over. A tear welled up as she turned to the man in charge, and then she let it fall. A soft hiccup followed.

Behind her, the boss and the lackey nearly recoiled.

Is she... crying? the lackey thought in disbelief.

The boss had a far more disturbing question.

Can she even cry? This psycho can?! What else can she do?!

A tear slipped down the corner of Lola’s beautiful eyes.

"Please, sir," her voice trembled—soft, soothing, heartbreakingly sincere. "Forgive us. We didn’t know what the granny was doing."

The man felt his chest tighten.

She looked so fragile. So helpless. And even while crying, she was breathtakingly ethereal.

"Please, just let us off this once," she begged. "We’ll do anything you want—just spare us!"

Her voice echoed through the square.

As if on cue, the townspeople followed. One by one, their pleas joined hers, rising into a desperate chorus.

In the chaos, the two Bellemonte men took advantage of the distraction—silently dragging three mercenaries away near the brothel and taking them down without a sound.

The man in charge noticed none of it. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

He clicked his tongue irritably at the townspeople. Lola’s pleading voice was soothing, but the rest of them? Annoying.

If only the governor didn’t ask us to...

The governor wouldn’t mind, right? It’s just one woman. There are plenty more here... including those little girls.
