Chapter 581: The Beginning of Change

Lola flinched, gasping as she gazed down at herself. She was still alive! At the same time, the sound of bodies falling to the ground echoed from where the men had been standing.

She turned, only to see the men who were supposed to be shooting her lying in their own pools of blood.

"Are you alright?"

Suddenly, a familiar voice echoed from her other side. When she turned her head, she saw the two Bellemonte men running to her. One of them squatted beside her, checking her from head to toe.

Good thing they rushed to her when she was giving that powerful speech. They took that as a signal that it was about time to confront the rest of the mercenaries.

But instead of giving them an outright answer, Lola raised a hand and clarified something.

"Just in case you don’t know, my reaction time is not that bad," she explained. "If I saw him pull that trigger, I would’ve rolled back into that door and avoided it. But alas, their fingers never got to pull the trigger—at least, that’s what I saw."

The Bellemonte men, who weren’t really looking for words of gratitude, knitted their brows at her.

"Anyway." Lola got up and cleared her throat. "There are some people coming over there. You should take them down first."

Having said that, she jumped and turned to leave. But she barely skipped a few steps before pausing and looking back at them.

"You got us some ride, right?"

One of the men nodded. "We parked them at the location you told us."

"Perfect!" she clapped, then resumed. "See you later, alligator!"

The Bellemonte men watched her go, shaking their heads before shifting their focus to the direction she’d pointed out. Taking refuge by the door she mentioned earlier—where she was "planning" to roll if they didn’t rescue her in time—they waited.

Soon enough, enemies rushed into the street where Lola had jumped down.

Just as she said, once they were far from cover or escape routes, the Bellemonte men shot them down one by one.

Meanwhile, in another part of Gigante, the men eventually overpowered the mercenaries. Despite the mercenaries trying to fight back and threaten them with their weapons, it was to no avail. Against a massive number of angry men—even if they fired once or twice—it was futile.

The boss jolted and shook his head at the sound. Not just him, but everyone who was still trying to knock the remaining mercenaries down. When they turned, they saw one man holding a rifle at them from a distance.

Everyone instinctively lowered their heads, some shielding others. But when they looked again, they saw that a truck had replaced the man’s position.

"The hell was that?" Lola scrunched up her nose. "Did I crash into someone?"
