Ransom, Florida, the Boss, and the two Bellemonte men couldn’t help but twitch at the sight before them. The first two hadn’t even fully registered what had happened to the town of Gigante.
Heck—they hadn’t even processed their emotions over the news yet. After all, they had planned to return to Gigante and help the granny. Now, they were being told there was no need to go back at all.
The town had been swallowed by flames.
And now... this?
Long blinked, snapping out of his shock.
"I know she’s crazy... but..." He shook his head as he marched toward the shattered entrance of the establishment. The moment he stepped outside and saw what the others were staring at, he gulped.
"That..." He ground his teeth, his breath hitching. "...sadistic psycho."
"Get inside!" Florida shouted, grabbing the lackey by the shoulder and dragging him back in.
Everyone else rushed into the bar as well, fully aware that this wasn’t over. They had only just seized control of the establishment, and now Lola was bringing something far worse.
Those from Gigante peered through the windows, their faces pale as they took in the disaster barreling toward them.
"Here’s the plan!" Florida pinched the bridge of his nose, shaking his head as he forced himself to focus. "For now, we take control of Five District."
Everyone turned to him, eyes wide—especially those who had only just arrived at the ruined bar.
"Since Gigante is gone, we make sure this place doesn’t follow it," he continued. "Except for Long, you’re all here to fight, right?"
Florida scanned their faces before stepping forward.
"Since she’s bringing them here, this is what we’re going to do."
Everyone instinctively leaned in, hanging onto every word. When he finished explaining, one of the townsmen spoke up.
"Can we really take over Five District?"
"We don’t have a choice," one of the Bellemonte men replied without hesitation. "We have to take it, and we will make it happen."
"The other residents of Gigante are still missing," another muttered, swallowing hard. "My child... I need to make sure my child has somewhere safe to stay."
The lackey, swept up by the townsmen’s resolve, clenched his fists and shouted, "We’re with the Goddess! What is there to be afraid of?!"
The Boss scrunched his nose, clearly displeased by how into it the lackey was getting. Still, he didn’t comment. Instead, he scanned everyone present with narrowed eyes.
That sadistic witch put me in charge of finding the mole.
Now, he trusted no one.
Everything—and everyone—felt suspicious.
Wait... could it be...?
His gaze lingered on Florida and Ransom. The possibility was slim, but a possibility was still a possibility.
"We’ve got to move now!" Florida barked, snapping everyone out of their thoughts. His eyes glinted as he surveyed the group. "We split up, take down as many enemies as we can, and—most importantly—stay alive."
"Fire at her!" shouted a man from the truck directly behind. "You can’t miss her this time!"
Standing in the back, a man steadied his rifle, one eye shut as he tried to line up a shot. Lola’s smaller frame made it hard to get a clear view, barely visible behind the seat.
So he aimed for the tire.
BANG!
Just as everyone thought the shot had hit Lola’s vehicle, another gunshot rang out. Both the shooter and the driver of the truck went limp.
The first man had been hit in the side—his finger spasmed, accidentally pulling the trigger and firing into his own teammate.
The truck swerved violently, crashing straight into a house. The vehicle behind it spun as it tried to avoid the wreck, only to slam into another structure.
Before the trucks behind them could process what had happened, sparks erupted from both sides—gunfire raining down from within the buildings.
"It’s a trap!" one of the men yelled over the radio. "It’s a trap!!"
Those far enough back managed to scatter, making sharp turns, scraping buildings as they fled. Meanwhile, the trucks closest to Lola collided one after another in a violent pileup.
As they spread out, frantically radioing each other about Lola’s position, they failed to realize something crucial.
Florida’s newly formed team wasn’t the only threat, nor were the elevated firing positions.
Beneath them was an entire underground community ready to fight alongside the person who had given them hope.
