The Zorken territory, where the Order lived, was surrounded by smaller islands. Most of them were occupied, but the most crowded of all was the main island, where the so-called main town was.

The mansion was located just behind the main island, and one needed a boat to reach it. The only reason the mansion remained hidden was because of the tall trees that surrounded nearly everything. It was the same with the other smaller islands, where some hills stood as natural cover.

And on one of those smaller islands... was Atlas and Henrik’s meeting place.

"He’s here."

Slater’s voice echoed in Lola’s ear, as he had been tasked with watching the small cabin. She nodded and turned to Atlas.

"Slater said Henrik is here," she repeated, dragging the chair beside him. "Baby, I feel a little worried."

"It’s alright." Atlas looked at her and nodded. "Henrik will not do anything reckless, and he knows that."

"That’s not what I mean," she smacked her lips. "It’s my first time meeting one of the heads of the founding families. It’s not that I care about what he’d say, but it would be a lie to say I don’t... feel something."

Lola’s brows twitched when she felt a squeeze on her hand in her lap. Gazing down and seeing his hand, she chuckled and lifted her eyes to him.

"I’m not scared, but rather... I don’t know. But I’m definitely not scared or nervous," she clarified with a smile, pressing her thumb against his hand. "But thank you."

He nodded, keeping his hand on hers to calm her. Soon, they heard the cabin entrance creak open slowly.

"Sneaking out is surely quite something," came Henrik’s voice as he closed the door. He removed his hat, only to see Atlas and another person seated at the table.

Henrik knitted his brows and narrowed his blue eyes. "That was—"

He didn’t continue, approaching the table where Atlas sat. The closer he got, the more he leaned his head forward, curiosity clear in his eyes until Lola’s side profile came fully into view.

"Oh." His mouth formed a small "o" when Lola lifted her eyes and met his.

Lola furrowed her brows as soon as their eyes met, a little surprised that Henrik looked younger than she had expected. Well, she didn’t think she had ever asked Atlas about the man’s age, since she had already placed him at a certain age in her mind.

Meanwhile, Atlas maintained a flat expression as he studied Henrik’s eyes, which stayed on Lola a little longer than they should.

"I am here," Atlas said, snapping both Lola and Henrik out of their thoughts.

Henrik blinked and turned to Atlas, smiling teasingly. "Of course, I know you are there. Don’t be jealous." He laughed as he dragged the chair across from him. "I’m just a little surprised. I’ve met you twice now since you got married, but I haven’t seen the mysterious Mrs. Zorken."

"I was dangerously close to assuming it was just a rumor and that this wife wasn’t a real person," he added with a charming smile. Turning to Lola, he stretched a hand across the table. "Where are my manners? It’s a pleasure to finally meet you, Madam Zorken. You are much more beautiful than the rumors said. The name is Henrik Bellemonte."

Lola glanced at his hand, which was wrapped in a bandage from what looked like a recent injury.

"The pleasure is mine," she answered without taking his hand, though she still offered him a short smile.

Huh? She blinked, puzzled. Is he bluffing to leave? Just like that? Nope — he’s really planning to go.

Ahh... she mentally nodded. So this is how he deals with people like Henrik. Don’t make him look like he needs them. He probably used this tactic many times before, seeing how quickly Henrik bent.
