"Allen, confirm their confession."
Allen nodded, holding the phone to his ear. "Yes, sir."
Having said that, he ended the call and turned his head. His gaze landed on Pika, who was helping him go through the list of people found dead on the island where Henrik had been—along with those seized in the mansion and those from the main island.
"Pika, can you confirm their family members..." Allen said, watching Pika nod as he worked on his computer.
Minutes passed with Allen pacing behind him, then propping himself against the desk nearby, observing Pika as he worked. He could have asked someone else to handle it, but right now, Pika was his safest choice—despite tonight’s operation being louder than usual.
If there are still people we missed... then this entire operation is for nothing, he thought.
After all, if even one person slipped through, whoever had coerced or directed them to turn their backs on the Order would know Atlas had made a move. From the beginning, their biggest concern had been resolving everything quickly, and it backfiring at them.
Atlas didn’t want a war, even if he could afford one.
"Have you checked?" Allen asked, eyes on Pika as the latter slowed his typing.
"Uh." Pika paused, then looked back at him. "I’m not completely sure, but according to these reports, at least one or two family members, friends, or lovers of those arrested tonight are no longer in the Order."
The reports didn’t list them as missing. Instead, they stated that these individuals had left the island for various reasons. Leaving the territory wasn’t forbidden, even though there were risks—something Atlas had approved when he took over the Order. Before that, those under the Zorken were never allowed to see the outside world.
Most people simply chose to stay, since life within the territory was safer and more comfortable.
Even so, not everyone on the list had left the territory. Many had only moved to different towns within it.
"I see," Allen nodded, picking up his phone again to ask someone else to verify the whereabouts of those who were supposed to still be inside the territory.
After that, he walked over to Pika and tapped him on the back. "Good work. Continue gathering the data."
"Yes, sir!"
With that, Pika watched Allen walk away to handle other matters. Once Allen left the new office—meant for a team Pika had yet to form—Pika refocused on the screen and continued working.
Not long after, a knock came at the door before it opened.
"You called?" Tyga peeked his head inside, only to see Pika almost hidden behind multiple monitors on the desk.
"Uh, yeah," Pika replied, distracted by his work. "Sir Allen said I could ask someone to help me."
Tyga stepped inside, listening as Pika explained. "Does this have anything to do with the commotion at the mansion? I’m not sure, but I heard there was a fight or something."
"..." Pika didn’t answer right away, his fingers continuing to tap on the keyboard. Then he paused and lifted his gaze to meet Tyga’s. "It’s not a fight. It’s an arrest."
"Arrest?" Tyga echoed, almost doubting what he heard. "Arrest for what?"
Pika thought for a moment before answering. "Espionage."
"..." Tyga fell silent, eyes fixed on Pika as if waiting for him to say it was a joke. "No way."
"I was instructed to conduct a thorough background check and confirm their statements," Pika explained. "I need help."
"Holy—" Tyga nearly gasped as he pulled a chair over and sat down. Then he froze when he saw Pika’s screen and the profile displayed on it. "I know that guy. Is he...?"
Pika didn’t respond, but his silence was enough.
"Damn," Tyga muttered in disbelief. He knew the man Pika was investigating. They’d eaten together, hung out occasionally—not close friends, but friendly. They’d even gone on minor missions together.
As he thought about it more, Tyga recalled how that same person had shown an unusual interest in their mission in Ravah. He’d been the first to congratulate Tyga when he returned alive, and the first to celebrate the rewards Tyga earned from it.
