[Lola]
"What now?" Lola squinted her eyes open as the silver-eyed man returned minutes after getting beaten by Melissa. "I’m still here. No need to keep coming back to check."
The man remained silent, staring at her before raising a phone toward her. The sudden flash made her lift a hand to shield her eyes until he switched it off.
"What’s that for?" she asked, catching him still looking at her.
Just when she thought he wouldn’t answer and would simply walk away, he spoke.
"Your husband wants to see you," he said bluntly. "To make sure you’re alive for the trade."
"Trade?"
But this time, the man had already turned his back on her.
"Hey!" she shouted, yet he walked away without pausing. Then her next words finally made him halt.
"Do it again!"
The man furrowed his brows and looked back.
"If you’re going to send my husband a video or picture of me, at least let me strike a pose!" she complained.
"Seriously?" Derek gasped from the corner he was squeezed into. "Do you think this is a photoshoot or something?"
"You’re not sending an ugly angle of me to my husband," she insisted, brushing her hair to the side. She quickly wiped her face before motioning to the man. "Use the front camera so I can see myself. I want to make sure I look pretty."
Both Derek and the silver-eyed man stared at her in utter silence. Meanwhile, Lola smiled almost innocently, fluttering her eyelashes.
But the silver-eyed man merely shook his head and turned on his heel to leave.
"Wait!" she called out, but he didn’t stop. Grinding her teeth, she spat, "I hope you drop dead!"
But he was already gone.
"That silver-eyed trash..." she muttered, grinding her teeth as full awareness returned to her.
Minutes ago, she had closed her eyes and nearly fallen asleep while thinking about how to escape. At one point, she could only hope the drug in her system would eventually wear off. Maybe after an hour, sensation would return to her paralyzed limbs.
But now she was fully awake—thanks to the unflattering video he had taken.
She didn’t care if he sent it to someone else. But to Atlas?
Looking pretty even in this situation was her goal, but more than that, she thought it might ease his mind if he saw she was fine.
"Lola, are you really that crazy about him?" Derek yelled. "How could you demand to strike a pose in that condition?"
Lola glanced at him disinterestedly and clicked her tongue. "A single man wouldn’t understand."
Her remark nearly choked him.
After his failed engagement and drowning in regret over hurting Lola, Derek couldn’t bring himself to meet another woman. Even when his cousin Justin arranged meetings for him, he felt nothing.
He wasn’t ashamed of that, but hearing it from her made it sound like something he should be.
"You—" he winced. "You’re a heartless woman!"

Just how low had she fallen?
