The Billionaire Twins Need A New Mommy! novel Chapter 814

Chapter 814: Code Blue

Another day passed, and before they knew it, night had already fallen.

Allen yawned as he rode beside Lola in the backseat. He glanced at her, watching her read through the newly compiled reports. Recovery efforts at the site were still ongoing. Many bodies had been recovered, but a significant number remained unidentified.

"Get some rest tonight," she muttered without taking her eyes off the papers. "I’ll handle these."

"Madam, you should rest too." Allen frowned deeply. "The twins already noticed you look exhausted."

Lola didn’t respond.

It was true. During their earlier video call, her children had pointed it out. Since she couldn’t leave yet, she kept in constant contact with them. She had told them Atlas was a little hurt but was recovering in the hospital.

Thankfully, the twins were behaving. They kept reassuring her that they were fine. Now that they were back with the Order, Lola felt slightly more at ease.

"Sleep early tonight," she said as the car pulled up in front of the hospital entrance. "We’re starting early tomorrow."

Allen nearly cried. But before he could protest, she stepped out of the car and headed straight inside.

She had been staying at the hospital, preferring to remain close rather than sleep at the inns or hotels where everyone else was staying.

"It’s not like she even has a room in there," Allen muttered.

All the rooms were fully occupied. That was why everyone was sharing, even the private ones. The only person with a room to himself was Atlas.

Which meant Lola had been sleeping in the hallway, or spending entire nights in the cafeteria or wherever she was allowed to stay. She refused to take a room for herself when others needed it more.

"Goodness," Allen sighed, looking away as he remembered the quiet discussion at the site earlier. "Those guys were actually planning to start a protest."

He shook his head. Some of them had even considered holding a mass prayer for Atlas’s recovery. According to them, if they prayed together, the heavens might hear their collective prayers and put a priority order to it. They were that desperate.

Even Allen hadn’t realized how draining Lola’s coping mechanism truly was.

"If only they knew Sir Atlas waking up wouldn’t make it any better," he muttered. "If anything, there’d be two of them."

He leaned back and glanced at the driver. "Let’s just go. I want to sleep. Wake me when we arrive."

Meanwhile, Lola reached for the doorknob, then stopped.

She pressed her lips into a thin line and swallowed hard. Slowly, she stepped back, staring at the door instead.

Allen had suggested she stay in Atlas’s room, since he was the only one with a private room. It wasn’t like she would make noise.

It wasn’t that she didn’t want to.

But...

"Why won’t you just wake up?" she whispered, her eyes softening as her gaze dropped. "You’re making me very nervous."

She had been drowning herself in managing the aftermath of the explosion. She gave her children the same steady energy during their calls. But whenever things quieted down, the emotions she had been suppressing clawed their way back to the surface.

She exhaled deeply, turned her back on the door, and walked away.

Not yet, she told herself. There was still too much to do.

People would say she should stay by his side. Talk to him. Take care of her husband.

She wanted to. She should.

But every second he kept his eyes closed, Lola felt herself spiraling. She was barely holding it together. Barely surviving each passing moment. And knowing Atlas, he would rather she do something productive than let him become the source of her suffering.

They had made a promise.

A promise not to become each other’s weakness. To trust one another. To treat their marriage as a real partnership—a team.

So while he lay unconscious in that room, Lola made a silent vow: when he woke up, everything would already be in order. Just the way he liked it. He wouldn’t have to worry. His family would be safe. His people were protected. And those who lost their lives that night would receive proper farewells.

"Make it fast!"

Lola’s thoughts halted as a group of doctors and nurses rushed toward her. Instinctively, she stepped aside, startled as they ran past.

Her brows furrowed as she watched them go.

That didn’t look good.
