For a moment, Mrs. Leblanc questioned if she had heard him correctly.
"But Yvonne..."
Landon didn’t let her finish as he stepped forward, leaving Mrs. Leblanc confused and staring at his back.
Was that really Landon? Mrs. Leblanc wondered. He used to stay beside her daughter no matter how busy he was. He even went as far as to leave work the whole day just to accompany Yvonne to the hospital. Yet, somehow, today was different. Landon didn’t even glance at Yvonne when he entered the room.
Mrs. Leblanc obviously didn’t take it seriously. Landon was just being considerate of her daughter and didn’t disturb her sleep. That’s right. That’s the only reason why he didn’t. She then turned around and went to her daughter’s room.
"Where’s Landon?" Yvonne stared at her mother gloomily.
Mrs. Leblanc sat on the chair beside the bed and told her he had already left to look for her father. After a pause, she added, "I wonder if he’s looking for your father because of you."
Yvonne’s ears perked up. "Me?"
She tried keeping a straight face, but her expectant smile broke through her façade.
Mrs. Leblanc smiled gently when she saw her daughter looking like a schoolgirl who had just had her first crush. Rubbing Yvonne’s head, she answered, "Why else? The two of you have known each other for a long time. Landon must be looking for your father to talk about properly asking for your hand in marriage."
"Mother!" Yvonne shot her mother an accusing look while blushing. "Landon is already married."
Mrs. Leblanc scoffed. "So what? That girl can’t compare to a single nail on your fingers. He’ll ditch her soon enough."
"But what if he loves her?" Yvonne’s heart leaped with joy, but her eyes sparkled with unshed tears. "He married her, after all, mother."
She still felt bitter about this.
"Love?" Mrs. Leblanc’s face twisted in disgust. "Landon was just amused by that gold-digging whore. He’ll get tired of her and toss her away like a used rag. And besides, your father had already filed a lawsuit against her. Landon wouldn’t protect and make an enemy out of your father because of her. Instead, I’m sure he’ll come around and propose to you, my dear."
Yvonne jumped into her mother’s arms and hugged her tight.
"Mother! I would be the happiest girl in the world if he proposed to me!"
"He will. And I will make you the most beautiful bride in the country, and everyone will be envious of you!"
The mother-daughter pair happily chatted with each other. After some time, Mrs. Leblanc finally left the room to plan her daughter’s wedding even before Landon could propose to her.
On the other hand, Yvonne couldn’t stop her lips from breaking into a wide and smug grin.
Everything was going as she had planned. Yvonne thought to herself.
After she left the country to have more fun and make Landon feel more desperate for her, Yvonne would never expect to hear that he ended up getting married to a woman whose lowly background did match theirs.
At first, Yvonne thought Landon was trying to get her attention. Honestly, it worked. But she was too hardheaded to surrender. So, she stayed, and in retaliation, she started sleeping around with other men, thinking Landon would crawl back to her, begging for her to pick him up again.
But it did not happen as she had imagined.
Landon continued being married to Lucy for two years!
Yet even after she returned, Landon did not divorce that slut. So, she could only take advantage of her close relationship with Mrs. Westwood and Emma. They willingly accepted her and made her stay by their side all day so that Landon could see her.
