The Billionaire's Ex-Wife Returns (Lucy and Landon) novel Chapter 41

Chapter 41: Landon: "Take Me To Her"

Landon stepped into the dirt with his high-end leather shoes. The dust picked up as the wind rolled and the morning sun heatedly shone down on him.

The biting heat seemed to mock Landon’s sudden nervousness as he stood on the main street of the small town. He tried to disguise his appearance as much as he could to look like a local, but his presence seemed too conspicuous as a bear in the middle of a busy street.

He’d spent a few days in Virela City, much to Alaric’s displeasure. His secretary’s task of mingling with investors and potential business partners had already ended on the day he arrived there. But with his boss there, he couldn’t possibly leave alone.

Landon walked toward the first person he could find. But just like how he started when he first arrived, he received a disappointing answer.

Still, giving up now that he had gone so far would be out of his character.

He continued asking around. He had spoken to shopkeepers, local diners, to anyone who would listen. His inquiries about Lucy did not stop until dusk. Alaric was always beside him and helped him with his quest.

Although Auramont was a small town in the outskirts of Virela City, the land it occupied was considerably vast with endless forest and sat below a mountain. Hence, it took a while for Landon to finally reach the end of the town, which was situated near the coast.

"This will be the last place we’re going to look, Landon." Alaric didn’t call him by a title now that they weren’t inside the office. Right now, the two of them were close friends out to find his wife.

"I’m reminding you that you’ve missed a lot of important matters at the company. The CEO cannot be absent for a long time."

Landon forced a nod. "I know."

People who say that owners of a company can relax and stay at home don’t know the real situation of a true CEO. Although they do have a lot of freedom and can come to the company whenever they want, they still have a major task to cover. They were just like a king to a chessboard. They were indispensable.

There was a cluster of houses and buildings right next to each other.

He walked forward with a heavy heart.

Please, give me something. Anything.

Landon held his breath as he prayed to find Lucy. He’d give anything to the world just to see her again. Talk to her. Touch her.

"Mom, a customer!" a young man shouted behind the counter when Landon and Alaric walked inside a diner.

"Give me a second. I need to clean this up first!" a voice replied.

Landon looked at the door where the voice was coming, guessing it was the diner’s owner.

"What do you want to order?" the young man manned the counter without his mother. He looked bored and too lazy to deal with them, but he still did his best to accommodate the customers in front of him.

Landon leaned against the counter as he said, "We’re not here to eat."

The young man raised his head and looked at him with a frustrated look. "What for then?"

"We’re looking for someone."

The young man scoffed. "Then go to the police station and file a missing person report."

"Luciano! That’s not how you talk to a customer!" the woman called out from the kitchen.

"They’re no customer. They’re looking for someone!"
