Landon knew he could trust his memory, and he knew his wife very well. Or at least, what she looked like before she disappeared.
But after the incident at the café earlier, he wasn’t so sure anymore.
Could it have been really a mistake? Was he seeing illusions to make up for the guilt and conscience he was feeling from letting Lucy go without even letting his feelings known?
Landon was contemplating for a long time. His attention was elsewhere, to his wife, while he was inside an important meeting with the executives and managers of the company seated at the long table.
"Mr. President, is this project not to your liking?"
At the other end of the long table, a man in a white button-up shirt and blue pants stood with his eyes focused on Landon. His hands trembled as he poised his question, hoping that wasn’t the case because he and his team had worked on this project for months.
Contrary to the man’s thoughts, Landon has not paid attention to what is being said in the meeting this whole time.
And now that his full attention was needed, Landon sighed.
He looked at the screen beside the man, who had just presented the project, and the papers in front of him. He could get the gist of it just from reading the words on the front page.
This meeting was to get his approval on a few major projects and get the funds for them. This man had just finished discussing the pros and cons of the project of an aquarium and amusement park being built near the newly built Southwest Branch, where a supermall was also being planned to be constructed right across it.
Landon flipped the pages while saying, "How much budget do you need for this project?"
The man saw hope in front of him, and he grasped it. "It’s 650 million dollars, sir!"
A mere 650 million dollars was not enough to make a crack into Landon’s wealth, but it was indeed a huge amount of money.
After hearing the funds that they needed for the project to proceed, the meeting room was bustling as the executive directors and managers from another department started to whisper among themselves.
One of them even stepped up to speak against it.
"There’s no need to approve of such a useless project. The president should invest in another project."
"That’s right. The Southwest branch is dedicated to the employees of the Westwood Group’s use; why should there be an amusement park close to it? An aquarium will only make it impossible for the workers to focus on their job!"
"But a supermall is currently being built in front. Once it’s completed, the city’s people will definitely make it a hot spot to shop and spend time. An amusement park and aquarium will also boost the tourism in our city.
The two opposing teams continue rallying their judgment on what should be done to the project.
But they knew that the final decision was up to Landon.
They were in a bottleneck since neither side wanted to give up. So, they turned to Landon to wait for his answer.
They saw the man sitting at the head of the long table, staring in a daze. His hand rapped gently on the surface of the table.
Tap, tap.
As soon as this tapping noise was heard, the silence that ensued inside the room was too loud. If there was a wind, it would howl. And even breathing seemed harsh.
