Chapter 101
Still, the feeling wouldn’t go away. It’s like something deep inside me kept pushing, urging me to report it and it didn’t settle until I finally decided to head to the station. So here I am doing exactly that.
Just as I’m about to leave, a message pops up from Lilly.
[Dinner at my place tonight.]
[Sure, but no surprises.]
Knowing Lilly, she’d have no problem setting me up on a blind date right in her own living room just to make sure I actually show up.
[Haha… I’m not making any promises. But seriously, it’ll be just us.]
[Fine. Talk later. I have so much to tell you.]
I hang up, grab my bag, and drive to the police station. By the time I arrive, I’m a nervous wreck, and I’m already doubting my decision to come here.
What if I’m overthinking this? What if it’s too insignificant to even mention?
But even with all the what–ifs swirling in my head, my gut refuses to let me turn back. So, I pull on my big–girl panties, walk inside, and ask to see Officers Mark and Calton.
Within minutes, I’m ushered into an office.
“So, what can we do for you, Miss Meyers?” Officer Mark asks once the pleasantries are out of the way.
“Well, uh… you told me to contact you if I remembered something,” I begin, fidgeting with my fingers.
Now that I’m sitting here, I can’t help thinking. Why the hell did I drive all the way here when I could’ve just called? I feel like such an idiot.
“Yes,” Officer Calton says, his voice cool and even.
“It might be nothing,” I continue nervously, “but… a few weeks ago, I got a note on my door.”
Both men lean forward slightly, and Calton murmurs, “Interesting.”
“What did the note say?” Mark asks.
I shrug, trying to downplay it even though my palms are sweating. “Nothing big. Just–‘Next time.“”
They exchange a glance, the kind that makes my stomach twist, before Calton looks back at me. “That it?”
“Yes,” I nod quickly. “I was coming home from a doctor’s appointment when I found it taped to my door.”
“And where’s the note now?” Mark asks.
“I threw it away. I thought it was a prank. Maybe one of the neighborhood kids messing around. I didn’t think much of it.”
Mark jots something down on his notepad before glancing up again.
“Has anything like this happened since?” Calton asks.
“No,” I reply, shaking my head.

“Anything else you remember?” Mark presses.
I hesitate, then sigh. “Yes. Also, from a few weeks ago. I was leaving a bar with a friend when I noticed a man standing across the street. He was wearing a mask.”
Both men exchange another look before Mark asks carefully, “And what was he doing?”
“Nothing… he was just standing there, staring at us. And then he disappeared,” I reply.
