The Billionaire’s Fight For Redemption (Noah and Sierra) novel Chapter 125

Chapter 125

The sound of the flatline drills into my skull like a blade. I can’t move. I can’t breathe. All I can do is stare as the doctors keep pressing those damn paddles to her chest, shouting numbers, shouting for life.

Come on, Sierra,I whisper. Come on.

This can’t be happening.

This can’t be happening.

I grip the back of my head so hard that my knuckles turn white. My heart feels like it’s being ripped out of my chest. Every beat of that damn monitor feels like it’s hammering me deeper into hell.

I shouldn’t have left her,I whisper, the words spilling out before I can stop them. I shouldn’t have fucking left.

I can’t stop the crushing guilt that wants to swallow me. Because my fucking pride was hurt, I left her. I left her knowing someone was after her. I could have waited for Lilly. I could have swallowed my fucking pride and stayed, but I didn’t and that’s on me 1

Lilly stands beside me, tears streaming down her face, shaking her head. I don’t understand what happened. She was okay. She was finewhat did you do? Did you upset her?

Her voice cracks, and she covers her mouth, sobbing.

I didn’t-My throat burns. I didn’t do anything.

Except leaving her. Fuck! Why did I let my anger and pride blind me? The officers had just told us someone tampered with her brakes, that someone wanted her dead and I still walked away. What the fuck is wrong with me?

I’m pissed off, but this time it isn’t at her but at myself for not thinking.

I shouldn’t have left her,I mutter again, my voice breaking. No matter what she said, I shouldn’t have—

“Charge it again.

But- But

I fucking said, againthe doctor growls, glowering at the nurse.

The defibrillator shocks again; Sierra’s body jerks violently before falling still.

For a heartbeat, there’s only silence and then,

Got a pulse!

The relief is instant and overwhelming. The air rushes out of my lungs in a shaky breath and my knees almost buckle. Lilly covers her face, crying harder, and I just stand there, watching as they stabilize Sierra, their movements a blur of urgency and precision. 1

One of the doctors glances at us. We’re moving her to ICU for monitoring. She’s stable for now, but we need to run more tests.

We follow them as they wheel her bed down the hall, the sound of the gurney wheels echoing off the tiles. Sierra’s face is ghostly pale, her lips slightly parted, and her chest rising faintly under the oxygen maskbut she’s alive and that’s what matters.

When they reach the ICU, I stand back as the team moves efficiently, hooking her up to monitors, IVs, and oxygen.

A few minutes later, the lead doctor steps out, pulling off his gloves. I immediately step forward.

What happened? My voice comes out rough and strained. She was fine when I left. She even went to the bathroom without assistance, how is she now back in the ICU?

The doctor shakes his head, his expression grave. We don’t know yet. There was nothing in her vitals earlier that indicated distress. He gestures to one of the nurses standing nearby. Sandra, you were on duty, weren’t you?

The nurse nods, looking flustered. Yes, Doctor. II checked on her a little while ago. She was fine. We even chatted for a bit.

About what?

She said she was excited to go home tomorrow,Sandra says with a small, confused shrug. She looked tired, but she was smiling. Nothing seemed wrong.

Something about her words doesn’t sit right with me. My instincts buzz with unease. If Sierra was fine, what the hell happened between then and now?
