The Billionaire’s Fight For Redemption (Noah and Sierra) novel Chapter 132

Chapter 132

All the evidence points to Brook, but I can’t hand her name over to the police. I can’t. Chloe left me to protect her and I’ll do that until I have solid proof that it’s her. Only then. Only when I have concrete proof that she’s the one that tried to kill Sierra will I hand her over to the police. Until then, she’s under my protection. 1

Taking out my phone, I type a quick message to Grant. He’ll take care of everything and wipe out the last remaining footage that wasn’t already deleted. 5

I stare back at Sierra, watching as her chest rises and falls, before finally pulling my gaze away.

I’m sorry, Sierra, I think. As much I want to protect you, I can’t let Brook take the fallnot when she might not be the culprit. 7

I sink back into the chair, elbows on my knees, hands clasped so tightly they tremble. Gunner stands by the window, jaw locked.

She’s not safe here,he mutters. You know that, right?

I know.My voice is low and rough. But where the hell else can we take her? She’s not even awake.

He sighs, shaking his head. You’ve got security on the floor. That’s something. But if this was a pro, it’s not enough.

I’ll triple it,I say automatically. Get every guard on rotation. I want eyes on every corner.

Maybe after she wakes up, we can think of something, but right now, we can’t risk anything interfering with her

recovery.

Gunner’s phone buzzes, and he steps away to take it. I’m left with my thoughts, which are nothing but a jumbled mess. I try to clear them, but nothing. They keep coming back, pulling me in different directions.

Gunner returns a moment later, slipping his phone into his pocket. I’ve just been told the press is starting to hover around the main entrance. Someone leaked that our families have been visiting the hospital for days now.

I can’t stop the growl or the curse that leaves my lips. My hand clenches as fury begins to wash over me. This is the last thing we need. The press sniffing around.

We need to deal with this. Keep her name out,he says. Sierra wouldn’t want this being plastered everywhere.

Already handled,I inform him, while texting Lilly, Lilly will take care of everythingshe’ll suppress any news about this.

For a long minute, no one moves. Then a nurse rushes out of Sierra’s room, her voice trembling as she calls out, Doctor!

((

My body reacts before my mind does. I’m already at the glass, heart hammering. Inside, the doctor and two nurses rush to her bedside. The monitors flicker faster. The green line that’s been steady for days spikes suddenly, erratically.

What’s happening?I shout through the doorway, but no one answers.

Gunner is at my shoulder, his hand gripping my arm. Noah-

Then, I see it. Her hand. It moves enough to steal the breath from my lungs. Her fingers twitch again, curling weakly against the blanket.

The doctor leans closer to her face, shining a small light over her eyes.

Pupillary response is good, one of the nurses says. She’s reacting.

Wait, what does that mean?I ask, my voice hoarse.

The doctor looks up, smiling faintly. It means she’s coming out of it.

For a second, no one breathes and then Gunner mutters a curse that sounds more like a prayer.

Her lashes flutter. Her lips part slightly, like her body’s trying to remember how to breathe again.

And then, finally, her eyes open.

Not wide, not fully focused. But enough.

I grip the edge of the window to keep myself upright as relief floods through me in waves so strong it nearly knocks me off my feet.

The doctor moves quickly, giving instructions to the nurses. One of them adjusts the IV line while another checks Sierra’s vitals on the monitor.

She’s stable, the nurse murmurs, her voice tight with concentration. BP’s climbing back into normal range.

The doctor nods, keeping his focus on Sierra. Let’s get her on half flow oxygen. Keep monitoring her heart rate. If she stays responsive, we’ll wean her off in a few hours.

I can barely process their words. My eyes keep drifting to Sierra’s face, to the way her lashes tremble with the effort. Her skin looks pale under the hospital lights, but there’s color in her cheeks again.

I don’t realize I’m whispering her name until the words are past my lips.

The nurses check her reflexes and ask her to blink twice if she can hear them, Her eyelids flutter once, twice. They smile softly, exchanging looks that speak of cautious optimism. 1

She’s responsive,one of them says.

The doctor adjusts her pillow gently and lowers the lights a little. She’s doing better than expected. Let’s keep observation for the next few hours and see how she stabilizes. He finally straightens and steps out of the room, closing the door quietly behind him.
