Noah frowns at the mention of Chloe’s name but remains silent.

Brook turns back to Noah. “I haven’t seen Lilly in ages, and I haven’t done anything to her… S–so maybe Sierra put her up to this. She has never liked me after all.”

My head snaps toward her. “Wow.”

I guess she thinks this is her chance to get me thrown out of the house.

Noah looks at me and hesitates. Just a second. Long enough for something ugly to bloom in my chest.

He looks at Lilly, frowning. “Why would you attack Brook in my house?” His tone is sharp now. Controlled, but angry. “Whatever this is, you don’t get to do that.”

Lilly stares at him and I see it then, the moment something in her

snaps.

She lets out a sharp, humorless laugh. “How are you even CEO? Are you so blinded that you can’t see her performance? Don’t you know that I would never attack her unless I had a reason? Did you not fucking see her shove Sierra while she was coming downstairs?”

Noah looks at me again, this time with worry in his eyes.

I hate how he still manages to disappoint me because once again, it’s clear he can’t fully untangle himself from anything that has Chloe’s name attached to it. He’s still caught in her gravity, still orbiting a past that refuses to let him go. 1

But why should I care? If he wants to spend his life being used and lied to, then so be it. That’s his choice. 1

Lilly reaches into her pocket and pulls out a phone, and I kid you not, she hauls it at Noah. It hits his chest before it falls to the floor.

“Check it,” she says, voice shaking with fury. “Go ahead. Check what’s inside.”

Noah bends, confused, and picks it up. “What is this?”

“The phone belonging to the kidnapper,” Lilly says coldly. “Our men got back to me, so look and check what they found.”

My breath catches and Brook stiffens.

I didn’t even know they had tracked the guy down, let alone gotten their hands on his phone.

The more I stare at the stiffness in Brooks’s shoulder, the more a sinking feeling begins to pool in my stomach.

Noah’s jaw tightens as he unlocks the phone, scrolling through the screen.

“Read the messages, and pay attention to the number.” she says

I watch Noah’s face change from confusion giving way to disbelief. His brows draw together as he continues to

scroll.

When Noah remains quiet, the phone clutched tightly in his hand, Lilly strides forward and snatches the phone out of his hands.

She says. “Let’s make it simple.”

She dials. The sound comes almost immediately. The phone in Brook’s hand begins to ring

The world stops, and everyone freezes. Me, Brook and Noah.

Brook’s face drains of color so fast it’s terrifying. Her lips part, but no sound comes out. Her phone keeps ringing until Lilly hangs up.

Brook laughs nervously. “This is insane. Someone must have…”

“You gave him instructions to get rid of Si. We already interrogated the bastard and he confessed everything that you told him to do,” Lilly cuts in.
