She freezes, just for a second, before her face smooths out. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
I advance on her slowly. “So you’re going to play stupid?”
“I really don’t know…”
“Jocelyn.”
I say the name and watch her closely… Then I see it. The widening of her eyes and the split-second panic before she masks it.
“I-I…” she starts, but doesn’t finish.
“How many times do I have to tell you to stay the fuck away from Sierra?” I growl.
“I haven’t…” she whispers, tears gathering.
“I’ve never asked you for anything, not once,” I snap. “Yet the one thing I ask, you ignore.”
“Noah, listen to me,” she pleads, voice trembling.
I don’t. I’m done listening because what explanation could possibly justify this? What excuse could make it acceptable to go after Sierra again and again?
“Why the fuck can’t you just let her be?” I demand. “Most people would be satisfied with what I’ve given you. So I don’t understand why even after I’ve given you everything, you're hell bent on hurting Sierra.”
“Noah, please...”
“Shut up!” I snap, my fists clenched at my sides, anger threatening to consume me. “What more do you want?”
She stays silent, and that only fuels the fire. If she has the audacity to go after Sierra, then she should have the audacity to face me.
I step closer, my voice low and lethal. “Why do you keep going after her?”
Her lips press firmly into a thin line.
“Why won’t you just leave her alone?” I growl. “She’s pregnant, for fuck’s sake.”
Tears spill down her cheeks, but she still remains silent, shaking her head as tears spill down her cheeks.
“Answer me!” I shout. “Tell me the fucking truth!”
She wrenches herself out of my grasp. “Because I love you!” she screams back.
The words freeze me in place and for a second, I’m convinced I misheard her.
