The Billionaire’s Fight For Redemption (Noah and Sierra) novel Chapter 285

SIERRA

I’m sitting on the couch, laptop open in front of me, pretending to read through research articles, but I can’t get my mind to focus. At this point I think I won’t be able to focus on anything until everything is cleared.

The company hasn’t sent their lawyers, but I know it’s not a matter of ‘if’ but 'when.'

I bet Jocelyn feels so triumphant right now and just thinking about how smug she must feel pisses me the fuck off.

My phone vibrates, finally giving me something different to focus on.

Seeing it’s Lilly, I answer immediately.

“Hey, Lilly,” I say.

“Hey, Babe,” she fires back immediately. “So… what are you doing today?”

I glance at the clock. “Right this minute? I was trying to focus on my research.”

“How’s that going?” she asks.

“I still haven’t cracked the formula,” I admit, “but I have a feeling I’m close. Really close.”

“I don’t want to discourage you,” she says carefully, “but you’ve been working on this for five years without a breakthrough.”

I sigh. “I know, but good things take time and this time it’s different. I can feel it in my bones, Lilly. I’m close.”

There’s a pause and I can hear her inhale softly.

“Okay then,” she says. “Go get it.”

“I will.”

“So,” she continues, “you said you’re working now. What about later? Any plans?”

“I was actually planning to visit Mom. I miss her… and I’ve been craving her tea and apple pie.”

“Oh. I was hoping we could hang out." There’s a tiny pause. "But I can tag along if you don’t mind. I haven’t seen Aunt Ivy in forever.”

I smile faintly. “You know you never have to ask. Come. Mom will be thrilled to see you too.”

“Yes!” she says, instantly brightening. “It’s settled then; I’ll be there in a few.”

“See you in a few,” I reply before she hangs up.

A few minutes pass when there’s a knock at the door.

Frowning, I push myself up from the couch and walk towards the door. Lilly can’t get here that fast and I wasn’t really expecting anyone.

I hope it’s not Noah because I’ll strangle him. I haven’t seen him since that day and as much as I’m thankful he took care of me, I don’t particularly want to see him again simply because he’s a chapter I’m determined to close.
