The Billionaire’s Fight For Redemption (Noah and Sierra) novel Chapter 415

SIERRA.

I’m just finishing getting ready when my phone rings. For a second, I stare at the screen, not really expecting to see his name there, but when I do, my chest tightens slightly.

I hesitate before answering, then swipe to pick up the call.

“Hey, Adrian,” I say softly.

There’s a small pause on the other end before his voice comes through. “Hey Sierra, I heard what happened and I just wanted to check up on you.”

“Thank you,” I tell him before he can ask. “I’m okay now and safe.”

“That’s good,” he says quickly, like he needed to hear that. “I mean… not good that it happened, but… you know what I mean.”

“Yeah, I understand," I murmur, fighting a smile.

Silence follows next, as if neither of us knows what to say next.

It’s weird how things are awkward between us now. Before everything crushed and burned, we would talk endlessly, never running out of topics, but now it seemed like there was this wall between that prevented things from flowing perfectly like they did before.

To be honest I can’t really trace where it comes from. Maybe it’s from how he walked away despite me asking him to stay and believe me, or maybe it’s from how guarded I’ve become or maybe a combination of both. Either way things aren’t the same anymore.

“How have you been?” I ask after a moment out of courtesy, of course.

“I’ve been okay. Just taking it one day at a time,” he answers, giving me the vague answer that everybody falls on when they really don’t want to answer.

“I’m glad you’re okay, Adrian.” I say, picking the only sentence that makes sense at this point.

I shift my weight slightly, glancing at my reflection in the mirror even though I’m not really seeing it.

“We should meet up sometime… Maybe have coffee." I can hear the nervousness in his voice, but I choose to ignore it.

I think about it for a while. For a second I’m tempted to turn his offer down, but I don’t. Maybe we both need closure.

“Yeah, that sounds like a plan," I say, even though neither of us sounds convinced.

“Alright,” he says. “Take care, Sierra.”

“You too, Adrian.”

The call ends, and I lower the phone slowly, staring at the screen for a second before placing it on the dresser.

I let out a small breath. That was so awkward it actually hurt and to think I agreed to have coffee sometime. Is that how it’s going to be? Before I can think too much about it, I push the thoughts away and head downstairs.

Noah is already there when I walk into the living room, and next to him are two men in uniform. Noah’s attention shifts to me immediately I walk in.

“Morning,” Noah says before turning to the men. “This is officer Harris and his partner. They’re here to question you about yesterday’s shooting.”
